Halloween Information
Our Leadership students will be organizing activities throughout the week for everyone to enjoy.
On the 30th to the 31st, students can guess how many candies are in a jar during the second half of lunch in the foyer. If students guess the number of candies in the jar, that student gets to keep the whole jar of candy.
Also on the 30th, there will be a scavenger hunt around the school: grade sevens are looking for ghosts; grade eights are looking for pumpkins; and grade nines are looking for skeletons. Students will get one piece of candy regardless of how many they may find. And in the gym during the second half of lunch, there will be Just Dance for students who wish to participate.
On the 31st, there will be a costume contest in the large gym during the second half of lunch; the categories include Best Makeup, Most Creative, Best Group, Best Duo, Scariest, and Funniest. A prize is awarded for the winner of each one of the categories.
While planning your costumes for the 31st, be aware that masks are not permitted, and no accompanying prop weapons may be brought into the school. As well, please remember to be culturally sensitive when choosing your attire.
Grade 9 Take Our Kids To Work Day
If none of these options work for your family, there is an online program that students can participate in.
A Permission Click form has been sent to all grade 9 families. Please complete this form indicating which option your child will be participating in on November 1. If your child attends school this day, they will be participating in the online program.

School Council
Elk Island Public Schools and F.R. Haythorne encourages school councils to participate as active partners in the operation of their schools to build a supportive school community and to act in an advisory capacity to the principal.
We have an amazing group of parents who gather to engage in conversations about school activities and share ideas and feedback.
Currently the start time for our meetings is 5 p.m. We would like to gather feedback to see if an alternate time could accommodate more parents. Please take a moment to complete our quick School Council Start Time Feedback Survey
If you have any questions about the role of school council or how you can be involved, you are welcome to contact our school council chair, bularejeita@yahoo.ca, or our secretary at charmynt@gmail.com.
Navigating ADHD: Understanding, Managing, and Thriving
Join us for a Parent session at Sherwood Heights Junior High on Wednesday, November 29 at 6:30 p.m.
Sherwood Heights school will be hosting ADHD Edmonton’s President Rachel Rogers who is a Psychologist that specializes in supporting families with children managing ADHD.
Rachel has worked with Edmonton Public Schools as a Teacher, Counselor, and Psychologist on multidisciplinary teams and is a wealth of knowledge to parents.
Rachel will be talking about the history of neurodivergences, what is ADHD?, and the brain. She will briefly talk about the role of medication, multimodal treatment, strategies, and self-regulation. She will also talk about ADHD Edmonton and the supports available (there’s a lot!) and finish with Q&A to address questions.
This session is open to caregivers and professionals; it will be held in-person at Sherwood Heights Junior High, as well as a virtual option.
