Community Check-In
North Rockland Central School District
North Rockland Families:
We are already midway through the first month of 2023!
There is no school on Monday, January 16 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This weekend, we once again remember his lasting legacy.
Across our school buildings this week, we celebrated the life and accomplishments of the incredible Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A man dedicated to achieving equality, freedom and dignity for all people.
His “dream” was for every child to receive access to an inclusive, high-level and quality education. Reflecting on his work and mark on America’s history and well-being, I am incredibly proud to work collaboratively with such a talented, dedicated and supportive staff, an active community and involved families to inspire, support and prepare all students.
It is important to remember, we thrive because regardless of our differences we always prioritize accomplishing our goals together. We are NR. Doing our part and creating environments conducive to learning, caring and sharing for ALL students truly make our schools great.
Our students are best served in schools where they not only receive quality instruction and supports, but where they feel safe, respected and have access to opportunities to grow. We also reaffirm Dr. King’s dream in North Rockland by remaining dedicated to providing programs for all children, as well as the resources that families need.
You will see our recent FLEP ceremonies, open UPK enrollment and new high-tech First In Math curriculum program highlighted in today’s Check-In below. All these wonderful District programs and the many more we will share as the year continues, have been put in place to not only better help learners succeed, but be recognized and celebrated for their unique abilities.
In closing I remind our school community it has now been a little over two weeks since holiday gatherings. We encourage our students and staff to continue the practices that have helped mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our schools. Washing hands frequently and thoroughly and staying home when you are not feeling well are key.
Thank you for your ongoing flexibility and support as we work each day to provide a safe environment and innovative opportunities for our students to excel - NR Strong.

FLEP Friday
One major milestone we are so NR Proud to be apart of, is when our students pass the NYSESLAT (New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test) which is designed to annually assess the English language proficiency of all English Language Learners (ELLs) enrolled in Grades K–12 in New York State schools.
At North Rockland High Schools FLEP Ceremony and Breakfast this week, passing learners were honored by their principals, administrators, our Superintendent and Board of Education Members. More photos.

Raider Rescue 🐾
Blue! 🐶
"Blueboy came to us as a stray. He is a blue nosed pit who is a sweet boy. His face is expressive
and his eyes are soulful. His coat is smooth velvety gray with a white stripe down his nose. He
is a typical silly pittie who would just love to have a home of his own.. If you are interested in adopting him please fill out an application on our website Hitor.org."
Lemur 😻
"Lemur is one of the many young adult cats currently residing at Hitor Animal Care Center.
Lemur had a rough start to his shelter life, having been found dumped under a staff members car in the driveway. He was found wearing a leather collar with no collar tags on it, and despite
being posted online, no one came forward to reclaim him. Despite being faced with such
unfortunate circumstances, Lemur is a sweetheart who has so much love to give. He loves to
get kisses on his head, take naps on his back, and looks for human companionship whenever
he can. Send in a cat application so that you can meet Lemur and take him to his forever home. If you are interested in adopting please fill out an application on our website Hitor.org."
