A Note from Mrs. Johnson
Hello, Valley Mills Families!
We miss you! It is hard to not be with you in person. We had so many fun things planned for May. Please know we hold you in our hearts every day and can't wait for the time when we can be together again.
We will have a Staff Parade on May 22, beginning at 12:30 from Valley Mills. We will drive through all the neighborhoods where you live. We would love to be able to wave at you and see your smiling faces as we pass.
I know that many of you have some questions about material pick up. The staff is working hard to gather everyone's belongings and placing it in a central location. You will pull up to Door 3 with the student's first and last name as well as the teacher name. We will bring your things out to the car. Lost and Found items will be displayed along the pickup line so that you can claim things you are missing. If you know something is missing, please reach out to your student's teacher so we can place that item among their belongings.
We will have pickup times the following dates and times:
Monday, May 18: 1:00 - 4:00
Tuesday, May 19: 9:00 - 12:00; 1:00 - 4:00
Wednesday, May 20: 9:00 - 12:00; 1:00 - 4:00
Thursday, May 21: 9:00 - 12:00; 1:00 - 4:00
Friday, May 22: 9:00 - 12:00
If you are unable to pickup during this time, please reach out to the front desk and we will arrange a time for pickup.
Teacher Appreciate - Decatur Township Educational Foundation
As another month of e-learning begins, we are hearing more every day about how valuable our teachers are! Our school buildings may be closed, but thanks to teachers, school is still in session. They are going above and beyond for their students in ways we couldn't have imagined.
Let’s honor Decatur Township educators with messages of support! Let them know how thankful you are for their vital work by sharing a few kind words.
As a fundraiser for the Decatur Township Educational Foundation, you can submit a Teacher Tribute by following this link. https://tinyurl.com/DTEFTeacherTribute
Once the submission process is completed, we will create an acknowledgment and share it through our social media channels, as well as notifying the teacher and their Principal through email.
Thanks for supporting DTEF and our teachers!
Please also consider sending your child's teacher a message of appreciation for all that they do!
Thank you for all you do to make Valley Mills the best school it can be. Have a great week!
Best,
Rebecca Johnson
Principal

2020-2021 Online Registration for MSD of Decatur Township
Dear Decatur Township Families,
This is Dr. Prusiecki, Superintendent of Decatur Township Schools. I am sending out a friendly reminder that our window for online registration for the 2020-2021 school year is open until Friday, May 22nd. As I stated last week, we are allowing for an online format that will provide families a way to secure their place for next school year while respecting the need to maintain the essential social distancing that our present day requires. The following information is beneficial to know:
You can go online and register at any time, day or night at DecaturProud.org up to and including Friday, May 22nd.
If you register now for next year, you will be able to keep your child’s Ipad for the summer.
All of our schools are closed to the public per the governor’s executive order. However, you can call any school office for any assistance or questions that need to be answered. You may also call Central Office for any assistance that you need.
Secondly, our end of the semester is this Friday, May 15th. Our faculty will complete all grading the following week for the semester. Therefore, all report cards will be available in Family Access in Skyward on Tuesday, May 26th, right after Memorial Day weekend. As we come to the end of this school year, we look forward to our Seniors’ Graduation on Thursday, June 11th as well as the transition to our next school year.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone who recognized our teachers this past week as we value their work with our students. Thank you Parents for working with us as we all have persevered through the adjustment of eLearning over this last several weeks. Our School Community is stronger and more resilient on account of this new adversity. However, we will work together and we will continue to strive for excellence during these challenging times.
Be Safe, and Together, We are Decatur Proud!!!

From the Nurse
Some of your students may have medication here in the building. If you do, please call the front office. The head nurse, Hayley Molin, will contact you to coordinate when you can come in to pick up the medications.
This year, they have the option to leave the medication in the clinic over the summer. Unlike years past, we will not be throwing away medication at the end of the year. If a student is moving to another school within the district in the fall (ex.Liberty to Gold), we will hold the medication for the student in a locked cabinet at the new school. *Parents will still need to fill out a medication administration form for the 2020-2021 school year prior to medication use. If the medication has expired over the summer, we will contact the family and let them know that we cannot administer.

Kindergarten Registration - Liberty Early Elementary
2019-2020 Calendar
It is time to begin the registration process for the 2020-2021 school year at Liberty!
Our previously scheduled Spring Registration Day (April 22nd) has been postponed, but you may complete Phase I of registration from home. Complete the online portion of the registration process.
Phase II will be scheduled once buildings reopen, which includes additional paperwork and collection of documents (birth certificate, immunization record, proof of residency and parent's picture ID). Your child will be registered once both Phase I and Phase II are completed.
In order to register for Kindergarten your child must turn five (5) years old by August 1. If your child will not be five by August 1, you may request an early entrance assessment by emailing acummings@decaturproud.org. You may not complete registration without approval.
At this time, we are only registering returning students for preschool. Parents of returning preschoolers may complete Phase I registration, as well.
If your child has not been enrolled in our preschool prior to the upcoming school year please email smeier@decaturproud.org to request enrollment for your child. You will not be able to complete registration without prior approval for preschool.
Camp Invention is going VIRTUAL - Camp Invention Connect
With these unprecedented times, we felt this is the best option for this year. Here are the details:
- June 15-19 (although students can see recorded live instructional sessions and use materials all summer long)
- kit materials shipped to student homes
- only $175 per any K-6 camper in the area ($15 off if they register with code ELEVATE15)
- covers all same content (STEM/IN Science Standards/innovation)
- LIVE virtual instructional time with a certified instructor and 10-20 students in the morning and optional in evening to present what they made
PLEASE, please.... please! Help me promote this! *In order for their supplies to get there by camp week, they need to register at least 2 weeks prior!
