Our Curriculum!
The SC classes use an adapted curriculum called enCore! There are a total of 36 units, and those units are banded by grade levels. All of our classes have multiple grade levels. Due to this, some classes might use two units simultaneously. For example, a class might use a unit for kindergarten through second and a different unit for grades third through fifth. Each unit consist of an adapted fiction book and an adapted nonfiction book. It takes six weeks to complete one full unit with three weeks per book.

What we learned last week!
Last week we were busy with pre-assessments for enCore and MAP testing.
In science, we began working on force of motion. 5th grade students will be working on circuits to cover a standard on the Georgia Alternate Assessment 2.0.
What we are learning this week!
Due to testing last week, we will begin our new unit this week. In literacy, we will begin our new units with a fiction book! Monday will be the pre-assessment for the unit. Each book has a variety of phonics built in. This changes every day. Depending on the book, the phonics could range from letter identification, letter sounds, counting syllables, or decoding words.
- Ms. Payne is using the book The Wizard of Oz.
- Mrs. Bassery is using the books Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Caterpillar Looks for a Shoe.
- Mrs. Banks is using the books and Who Would I Be ? and Busy Mother Hen.
- Ms. Turnbull is using the book The Red Raincoat.
In math, we will be working on counting and cardinality. This ranges from building numbers to subtracting on a number line.
In social studies, we will be learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.!
Visual Cooking!
Cooking is an important life skill our students will need to learn. At home, you can use visual recipes to help your child begin learning these important skills!
