AOC families: These past few weeks, Ms. Grijalva has been meeting with all of the 10th and 11th grade students. Meetings will continue until March 10th. With the help of Advisement teachers, we have completed the paperwork for those students taking COC Summer Classes. After March 10th, if students want quick check-ins they can book another appointment or use walk-in hours Monday-Thursday from 11am-12pm. See below for more grade specific reminders.
9th Grade Students

- 9th grade students can take College and Career Readiness classes through the Hart District. More information will be available on March 1st on the district website https://www.hartdistrict.org/apps/pages/summer-school. Should your child want to take a CCR course, please have them see me. Classes take place all of July.
- Those currently enrolled in AOC's HA2T class have an opportunity to take a summer Geometry class (based on math department recommendation and STEM interest.) An email invitation will be sent by Friday, March 3rd. If invited, the class will take place in July. It is online with online LIVE testing and commits students to taking higher level math courses at COC. This class is only for AOC students as the district does not have "get-ahead" classes over the summer.

We are so excited to inform you that we are back for our Spring 2023 Make-A-Blanket Day and we would appreciate it if you could pass this message on to other schools and principals!
We would love to have you join us on our Make-A-Blanket Day on Saturday, March 4 from 10 am to 4 pm at the COC East Gym this year! Nonprofit Ventures - Project Linus is a chapter of a non-profit organization that specializes in making and delivering handmade blankets all across the valley to provide love, security, and comfort to children who are seriously ill and traumatized. It is also our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals, students, and groups in our local communities, for the benefit of children.
Our event this year is on March 4th! We will be located at College of the Canyon’s East Gym at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Rd, Santa Clarita, CA 91355. There will be food trucks at the event if you would like to purchase food!
Furthermore, if you are unable to participate in our Make-A-Blanket Day Event or cannot attend the event for the full amount of time, you can drop off blankets on the day of the event from 10 am-2 pm! We ask that ALL participants fill out the form to sign up and receive instructions on how much fleece to bring and the number of service hours participants can earn. Participants will be emailed a service hour confirmation form at the completion of the event. To learn how to make the tied fleece edge blankets, please check out our website @scvprojectlinus.org.
We have included a digital flier, the sign-up sheet, an instructional video for how to make blankets, and a promotional video to assist participants in making blankets and helping us spread the word. If you have any questions regarding the event, please feel free to contact us events.svcpl@gmail.com.
See you there!

Game of Life Presented by AOC Wellness Department on 3/5
Academy of The Canyons is proud to present the Game of Life. Originally created in 2011 by The SCV Youth Project, the Wellness Team of AOC is bringing back this youth-focused, community resource event. Our students will have an opportunity to connect with agencies in the SCV and surrounding areas in order to learn strategies and coping skills that can help themselves and others in crisis situations.
This event will be held on campus March 3rd for our 9-12th grade students, who will spend 1 class period participating with fellow classmates to problem-solve real life scenarios by visiting each of the agencies connected to that particular situation. For instance, teens needing to solve a sample crisis situation of domestic or substance abuse, unhealthy relationships, anxiety, and depression can visit one of the community resource agencies that focuses on these topics. The real-life scenario allows the students to meet with representatives from the various agencies and receive information and community resources for all types of services such as those for mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, food assistance, and more.
Given the multitude of daily life struggles teens may encounter, the AOC Wellness team feels it is important to bring awareness to these real-life situations and teach our students to reach out for the proper tools & techniques to cope with stress and crisis situations.
