The end of term 2 is nigh!
This term honestly felt like it went by super fast. It felt like just yesterday that we all took our first steps onto the new campus last August. So much has happened throughout the term, we had an excellent sports day with a ton of competitive spirit, our school also had it's official opening ceremony to mark the opening of our new campus. And we had a fantastic International Culture Festival that was the biggest we've ever seen in our school's history. And now on the eve of the term ending we will witness Grade 5 and Grade 6 showcasing the culmination of all their learning in our yearly PYP Exhibition.
It's been a fun term and I can't wait for the next.

Classroom Spotlight: Nursery
From Ms. Monica
The first three years of a person’s life is critically important. A child’s brain continues to grow to about 80% by age three. That alone puts a lot of pressure on the Nursery teachers because it truly is in our hands to raise happy, smart, and resilient children.
Nowadays, children who go to school start at the tender age of 1 or 2. This means that we have a big responsibility to raise children who will not have to recover from their childhoods, and this is quite a challenge as children are forced to separate from their primary caregivers at such an early age. With the right people, with the right activities, and the right mindset, it is possible to make the transition from home to school less stressful for children.
At AIS, we started by shifting the paradigm - instead of having the children go through drastic changes from home life to school life, we do our best to simulate the environment and the routines done at home and to be the most caring individuals that the children need.
In addition, we put great emphasis on play as the decline of play, especially outdoor play, is now considered a childhood crisis. Play is a necessity, and it yields dividends later on in life. We spend great amount of time on research and observations when setting up the play environment. We highlight the importance of curiosity and creativity more than anything else. That means before we could put pencils in those tiny hands, those hands should dig, throw balls, climb, pull, twist, squeeze.
Moreover, the wonderful outdoor space has helped children in so many ways. We not only use it for outdoor play. In fact, most of our centers and sometimes our circle time are held outside. After all, the best classrooms are those without walls and ceilings. We also have incorporated a lot of natural materials and activities in our centers. Lately, we have observed that new students who join us in the middle of the school year do not suffer from separation anxiety. I think one big reason behind this is the paradigm shift. We have to meet the children where they are instead of forcing them to adapt to circumstances that they have to be in. This is Reggio Emilia. This is EYFS. This is Montessori. It is the amalgamation of the three approaches that makes AIS a safe and rich place for our students. A child has a hundred ways to learn and their universal language is play. At AIS, rest assured that they get the most out of it.
PYP Exhibition
PYPX is around the corner.
PYPx brings together the essential elements of the PYP and shares them with the school community. As a culminating experience, it is an opportunity for students to display the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile attributes and approaches to learning that they have been developing throughout their time in the PYP program. Students engage in a collaborative, transdisciplinary inquiry process that involves them identifying, investigating, and offering solutions to real-life issues or problems. We hope it inspires them to be lifelong learners.
Grades 5 and 6 would like to showcase their projects to our school community. The topics they chose are:
Coral reef
Exercise
Gender bias
Honey bees
Movie morals
Ocean animals
Phone addiction
Unnatural death
Exhibition Schedule:
13:00 - Doors open/ Exploration of the art gallery in the gym
13:05 - Opening ceremony
13:20 - Audience explores student exhibits located around the gym
15:00 - Finish (there is no closing ceremony, so feel free to leave once you have seen all exhibitions)
Please join us to show your support for our Grade 5 and 6 students!
Please note that this is a normal school day for all students (Nursery to Grade 9). School hours remain the same for students. Grade 5 and 6 students are asked to stay until 16:00 to help clean up.
Thank you,

Movies With Morals
By Kaname, 6th Grade
These days there are a lot of movies that are lacking morals and are not appropriate for kids to watch. This paper will have a list of good movies and why they should be seen. What is considered appropriate for kids changes with time. Parents want their children to have a good education also by watching movies. It seems hard to find good movies with good morals, so I wanted to help parents and kids with their search.
One of the movies with great morals is “Inside Out”. “Inside Out” is a very good movie because the movie is very creative and touching. “Inside Out” is also a movie with great morality because it shows viewers that it is okay to not feel okay. It also teaches viewers to realise how people are feeling right now. These are the reasons why “Inside Out” is a good movie.
A second movie with another great moral is “My Neighbor Totoro”. “My Neighbor Totoro” is a good movie because it’s a very gentle and nice story for kids. The characters are also cute. “My Neighbor Totoro” shows the importance of sharing by how the characters share umbrellas together and show their kindness to the people. The hidden message in the movie is that joy can be found anywhere. “My Neighbour Totoro” is a very good movie so you should let your kids watch it!
“UP” is also a very good movie because there is both a fun adventure for kids to watch and a movie with depth for the adults. In “UP” the main character grows old and regrets things he did. It shows what is wrong and right. The hidden message in “UP” is that the real adventure of life is the relationship with others.
“Babe” is a live action movie rather than an animated one whose main character is a piglet. It’s a very gentle and cute movie. The reason why “Babe” is a good movie with a good moral is because its main idea is family is more than just the person who gives birth to you. The message in “Babe” is about respect and overcoming prejudice.
Last, but not least, “The Lion King” is a very good movie. The moral in “The Lion King” is that every action you take in life carries responsibility and the importance of forgiving the mistakes you made in the past. Another message in “The Lion King” is to have fun with your life.
In conclusion, there are many movies lacking morals. I really want to help parents that are having a hard time finding movies that are appropriate for kids to watch. The movies I suggest are “Inside Out”, “My Neighbor Totoro”, “UP”, “Babe”, and “The Lion King”. I hope this article helped!
