EHE Connection
May 27, 2022
Greetings, Laker Families-
Superintendent Laurie Dent sent out communication Tuesday evening regarding the tragic school shooting in Texas. Her message echoes the hearts of all the SBLSD staff. I want to reassure you that the Laker staff place the physical and emotional safety of all our students at the forefront of our planning each and every day. We take very seriously our role in protecting the children that you place in our care so we are again reviewing our lockdown procedures as a staff, and we will be conducting a full lockdown drill next Friday, June 3. Knowing that the tragedy in Texas can impact elementary age children in different ways, we have been very sensitive in facilitating any conversations that may be taking place at school. If you have questions or concerns about how your child is doing, please don’t hesitate in reaching out to your child’s teacher and/or our school counselor Mrs. Rendahl. I have also attached two resources to support conversations with elementary age children that the staff are using as a reference at school….“Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Educators.”
As we wrap up the week, I want to highlight how proud we are of our 3rd-5th grade students for persevering and completing the ELA SBA testing given the challenging events from this week. You have incredible children! They will finish up with the Math SBA on June 1 and 2. The district has also asked that the 4th and 5th graders participate in this year’s digital CEE survey (approximately 10-15 min) to provide feedback on our school. This will be completed by June 3 in either their regular classroom or when they are in STEM Specialist. Thank you for supporting this effort to ensure we hear the voice of our Laker students.

Thank you for your continued support of our school community. Our Laker Purposefull People Character Trait for the month of June is “Creativity…Using your imagination to create something or solve a problem.” Your follow up at home reinforcing your child as he/she demonstrates “creativity” each day would be a wonderful home-school connection. The background for our Laker Purposefull People Character Traits can be accessed through the Character Strong website. Thank you for raising such amazing children that desire to be Purposefull People.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
