Autumn Term - 23rd November 2023
Message from the Head of School
Dear Parents/Carers
Over the last two weeks, pupils in year 3 and 6 have been taking part in their safety awareness training. For year 3, this has involved developing their understanding of how to stay safe when crossing the road and walking in the local area. For year 6, they have completed their cycling proficiency. These are both vital skills and I am so pleased to get such positive feedback from the staff running the training. Please speak to your children at home about the key safety messages around this training.
The festive season is fast approaching and HJS is always a hive of activities at this time. Please read through the document below titled, 'What's happening this Christmas' to ensure you do not miss out!
The Spring term club information will be sent to parents on Thursday 30th November. I am pleased to say that we have once again increased the number of after school clubs and hope that many of you will book a place. Remember that clubs are booked directly with the provider and they take responsibility for all bookings.
Finally, can I remind parents that the school day finishes at 3.15pm. Children must be collected promptly at this time. If you are running late for a one off specific reason, please call the office so we are aware. When parents are late, the children will be taken to the office. Parents will need to sign the children out using the Inventory computer system in the office once they are collected. We understand that sometimes circumstances are out of your control and may cause issues around pick up but we will be monitoring this closely over the next few months.
I hope you all have a great weekend.
Mr Jon James

Messages from the Office
Reporting Illness
Please ensure when you call the office to report an illness you give full details of why your child is off. Reporting that they are "unwell" will result in a further call home to request full details. This is especially helpful on their return to school so we know why your child has been off if they are still not 100% recovered and also ensure that children with sickness or diarrhoea remain at home for 48 hours.
Dropping/Picking your child up from HJS
May we remind you that it is both illegal and dangerous to stop on either the pedestrian crossing or yellow zig zag lines outside the school when picking up or dropping off your child (even if you currently hold a disabled badge).
Please ensure you leave enough time at the start or end of the day to park sensibly to ensure the safety of both your child and others.
Social Media / Sharing and Celebrating
As a partnership, we are very proud of our communication systems and the feedback we receive from parents is very positive. However, we are also always looking for ways to further improve our offer.
HJS currently have an active Facebook page but we are considering either expanding this to include HISN, or looking to use an alternative platform.
The main purpose of the platform would be to share and celebrate events in school as well as send reminders out to parents.
Please could you indicate below which social media platform (if any) you would be most likely to engage with by clicking on the below link.
Author Visit - Aisling Fowler - 8th December
Award-winning author and illustrator Aisling Fowler will be visiting Yrs 5 and 6 at Hampton Junior School on Friday 8th December.
Students will have the opportunity to buy the below books priced at £7.99 each before the visit, which will be signed by Aisling Fowler herself. To purchase either of the below books please visit ParentPay by 24th November.
Year 5 News
5S enjoyed their trip to Hampton library on Friday. They listened to a chapter of ‘Unbelievable’ by Paul Jennings, and then had the chance to chose their own books to borrow.
5S also enjoyed their gymnastics lesson on Friday where we were learning how to do bridges and cartwheels. We had lots of fun and successes!
5C really enjoyed their science lesson today. They conducted an experiment to see if materials were permeable or impermeable. They then identified which material would be most suitable for a umbrella.
