Hello Glennwood Families,
Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful winter break and enjoyed time with your families. As we are getting back into our school routine this week, please remember that students may not be dropped off in the car rider line. Several students have exited the car this week in front of the school building. This is a major safety issue. Please park and walk your child into the building or remain in the car rider line for staff members to assist getting your child out of the car safely.
As a reminder arrival is 8:00am-8:18am. Our carpool line closes at 8:18am so we can have students in their classrooms and ready to learn at 8:20am. If your child is a car rider and eats breakfast at school, please try to get your child to school as close to 8:00am as possible, so they have time to enjoy their breakfast before starting the school day at 8:20am. Thank you for working together with us to ensure your child is off to a great start each morning!
Tomorrow in Community Circle, our second grade students will present a special Black History Month celebration. They have worked very hard preparing their presentations, so I hope you will make plans to join us. Also, the second portion of our African American Read-In program (rescheduled) will take place immediately following Community Circle tomorrow. You are welcome to stay if your schedule permits, otherwise please exit as quickly as possible so we may begin our program.
Thank you to the families who have completed the Georgia Parent Survey! We still need a lot more participation. Your voice is important to us! This survey was developed to measure parent perceptions of school climate at Glennwood; and your opinion is very important to us. Your survey responses are anonymous and confidential and will be combined with the responses of other Glennwood parents to identify areas in need of improvement. It is a quick survey! Please complete the survey by March 1st. Thank you for your time and participation.
We are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. 😁
Warmest regards,
Holly Brookins, Ph.D.
Principal
Black History Month Mystery Person Contest
Our mystery person contest continues this week as we honor famous African Americans for Black History Month. One way we have been celebrating at Glennwood is by revealing clues over the morning and afternoon announcements about a famous African American. At the end of the week, the famous person will be revealed, and one student’s name who answers correctly will be drawn to receive a prize. This week's winner will be revealed tomorrow. Thank you for participating!
You may help your child research the clues at home. Here are the clues for next week.
News from School Counselor, Mr. Blase
Over the next couple weeks, I am teaching lessons with students on the qualities of good sportsmanship. We're reading books and watching videos of examples of ways that people have shown good sportsmanship, what are the characteristics, and ways that showing good sportsmanship has benefited everyone. We are ending the lesson with a This Or That game where the students choose between the difference of good vs. poor sportsmanship. They will also receive an activity sheet to do in school or at home. The students have been very engaged as this is an important topic that has been coming up out at recess and in class. We appreciate you discussing and helping students model these behaviors at home.
