Picture Retake Day is Monday, October 18th outside of the Performing Arts Center. To order your picture packages ahead of time, visit mylifetouch.com and enter Picture day ID: EVTK24SX9.

Retake pictures will be taken during your English class. if you are getting your pictures retaken, bring your original picture package to the photographer.

Homecoming Dress-Up Spirit Days:

Friday: COLOR DAY & Pepfest (Grade 9 wears white, 10: gray, 11: blue, & 12: black)

Homecoming Week Special Events:

Friday, October 15: Tailgate on Lightning Plaza at the Homecoming Football Game (vs East Ridge), 5-7 pm. Community booths and food concessions. All students and the greater public are welcome!

Saturday, October 16: Homecoming Dance. See announcements below. All students are welcome!

All Week:

Homecoming Cup – earn Cup Points for your grade by participating in Homecoming dress-up days, events, and service projects. There will be QR Code check-in at each Homecoming event. The 2021 Homecoming Cup winner will be announced at halftime of the football game on Friday.

Medallion Hunts (Indoor and Outdoor) – Prize $20 cash! Look for daily clues in your Schoology Updates. All students are welcome to join in on the hunt! 100 Homecoming Cup points to the finder of each medallion class.

Community Service (Student Choice) - All volunteering in the community during Homecoming Week will count as 10 Homecoming Cup Points per event. Photo evidence is required via this reporting form. Need some ideas? Pick up trash at your local park, rake an elderly person’s lawn, volunteer at Feed My Starving Children, serve food at a shelter, etc. All are encouraged to volunteer in the community.

Saturday 10/16: Homecoming Dance

Cost: $10.00. Guests must register in advance (see below for more information). Dress is semi-casual (wear nice clothes). Face masks required for indoors.

Dance Location

The dance will be a blended inside and outside event: Students may dance outside on the East Patio without masks. It may be cold so dress accordingly. Students can also dance inside in the East Commons with masks. The same music will be played in both locations so students can easily move from inside to outside as they choose.

Homecoming Dance & Tickets

Tickets for the Homecoming Dance, held on Saturday, 10/16 from 8-11 pm, may be purchased for $10 at lunch, at the door, or online. All students are encouraged to buy their tickets in advance during lunch to eliminate having to wait in line at the dance. Tickets will be sold Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during Homecoming Week at lunch. Guests are welcome; all guests must register and be pre-approved via a Guest Registration Form. Guest Registration Forms may be found in the Main Office (or online). Bring current school IDs.

All guests at the Homecoming Dance who do not attend Eastview need to complete a Guest Registration Form. Forms can be picked up in the Main Office. The form needs to be completed by the guest’s home school administration and emailed back to EVHS on Friday, October 15, by 2:30 pm. More information is included on the form.

Homecoming Dress Notice

Our Homecoming Dance will be on Saturday, October 16 from 8:00 - 11:00 pm. Dress is semi-casual (wear nice clothes). Face masks required.

• Water and snacks are available for sale for $1 each.

Eastview Community if you would like to “fit in” at the game on Friday night, get your Tackle Cancer shirt. They are just $15.00 and all proceeds go to a great cause. T-shirts can be purchased before school, during lunches, and before the football game on Friday (5:30-7:00pm).

In need of some new Eastview gear for Homecoming Week? The Eastview School Store which is located at the east end of the commons will be open during all lunches October 6-15. We have a large assortment of new spirit wear which should be arriving soon. Stop down at the Eastview School store to purchase your Eastview gear or Tackle Cancer t-shirt starting Wednesday, October 6. Go, Lightning!

All students needing to serve Detention for tardies or for other reasons can begin serving Monday, October 4th. Afternoon Detention can be served on Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursdays from 2:40-4:00pm in C239. A morning Detention from 6:30-7:35am in Student Services is another option Monday-Friday.

Detentions need to be served within two weeks of notice. Any detention not served by the end of the quarter may result in additional consequences. Thank-you for being Responsible and holding yourself Accountable.

2021-22 Eastview Planners are available for purchase in the Main Office. They are $5. Come and get yours and get organized!

Students in District 196 will be provided breakfast and lunch at no cost during the 2021-22 school year due to a grant provided by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. All families are still encouraged to complete an Educational Benefits Application, formerly the free and reduced-price meals application. Upon approval, these benefits are extended to Activities/Athletics fees and more. A new application must be submitted each year.

Purpose

To offer an opportunity for a panel of community leaders to share their perspectives on the growing diversity of Dakota County, reflect on how diversity impacts our life together, and suggest how to embrace our diversity to create a community of to encourage respectful, mutual conversation, and suggest how to embrace our diversity to create a community that mutually supports all members to thrive.

Outcome

From listening to a variety of community leaders, attendees will receive a greater understanding of the growing diversity in Dakota County, understand both the opportunities and challenges this brings, and hear suggestions for how to be an active citizen who makes a positive difference in a community of growing diversity.

The school district is hosting a Technology Support Night for Somali families on Monday, October 18th from 5-7pm at Apple Valley High School. We plan to set up Schoology, Seesaw and Infinite Campus accounts. We will have staff on hand to field all the questions. An interpreter will be available at this event.

Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools

State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.

Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.

Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.

Review and Update Emergency Information

If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.

All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.

Get help with your college applications! Admission representatives from area colleges will be present, along with your counselors, to help you get started and/or finish your college applications, provide feedback on your personal statement/essay, check the status of your materials/applications, get started on FAFSA or scholarship applications, or if you don't know where to start-help advise on different postsecondary and career options.

Monday, November 8th: Paying for College Night

Join us for an evening with Chris George, Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid at St. Olaf College. He will be presenting important information on paying for college, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and understanding college financial aid award packages (ex. grants, loans, scholarships, and work study).

The deadline for EVHS Advanced Placement exam payment is Wednesday, October 20th and is available on MyPaymentsPlus. Per EVHS policy, students enrolled in an Advanced Placement course are required to take the exam in that course. 2021-2022 Free Application Opportunities at Minnesota Colleges and Universities

As Minnesota high school students think about applying to college, application fees should not be a barrier. There are many opportunities for students to apply to MN institutions for free.

College Financial Aid information

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be available October 1st. Please go to www.fafsa.gov to complete this application. Information to assist in completing the application are also available on the FAFSA website. All seniors attending ANY type of post-secondary institution should complete the FAFSA.

Students should stop by the Counseling Office and get a pass to attend the college/university/military Rep Visit prior to the right visit. These university/college or military visits are small group meetings typically lasting 20-30 minutes. These admission reps are often times the same people that review college applications, so it's a great connection for students.

Competition Cheer - The Varsity Competition Cheer Team has a busy weekend and will be competing in 2 completions this weekend. They will compete at the Lakeville Invitational (performance time 10:55am)at Lakeville South High School. on Saturday and in the Kasson-Mantorville competition on Sunday (performance time 11:30am).

Eastview’s debate team took first place in both Varsity and JV divisions in both Classic Debate and Public Forum debate in their latest tournaments. Congratulations to: Riley Hetland & Izhan Qureishy, Varsity Public Forum Debate Champions at the Rosemount tournament; Finn Boffeli & Neal Rajvansh, Junior Varsity Public Forum Debate Champions at the Rosemount tournament; Thomas Nelson & Silvie Reitz, Varsity Classic Debate Champions at the Oct. 9 meet; Emily Hering & Rhea Saarang, JV Classic Debate Champions, at the Oct. 9 meet; and special congratulations to Saffiyah Aziz & Abbie Smith, who are undefeated so far this year in Varsity Classic Debate, finishing 2nd at the first two meets. Eastview’s Congressional debate team also had 3 debaters in the Top 10 in varsity: Allison Champ, Sami Tesfaye, and Tirsit Enbackom.

Saturday the EVMB conducted their 2021 Show ‘Electrified’ at the Youth In Music Championships at US Bank Stadium. The Lightning zapped the stadium with a megawatt of marching skills and entertainment that earned them a standing ovation and 3rd place among Minnesota bands in class 4A competition.

Eastview’s Carmen Pasquerella received a coveted YIM scholarship. The beloved Mr. Frank Pasquerella, Eastview band director and former Bluecoats performer, was honored with an In Memorium tribute on the jumbotron.

Of the 31 bands competing at YIM, Eastview’s scores earned them 5th place overall and qualified them for a spot in the evening’s Grand Championship Finals. A dynamic powerhouse and crowd favorite, the Lightning continued to supply a strong current of talent, precision, and pageantry at finals. ‘Electrified’ delivered 83.7 jolts in points and a 4th place finish for the EVMB in the Grand Championships. Cheer on the Marching Lightning when they contribute to the Friday night lights with their electrifying performance during this week’s Homecoming halftime show.

Wanted: Lifeguards and Swim Instructors

Looking for a fun way to earn some extra money and make an impact on lots of children in our community? The Community Education Aquatics Program is looking for those that are comfortable with their own swimming abilities to help teach swim lessons.
