January 2024
Welcome to 2024!
Dear Skamania Families,
Happy New Year! I hope this letter finds you and your family in good health and high spirits. As we embark on a new year, I wanted to take a moment to wish you all the best for the year ahead.
With the winter season upon us, I would like to remind you to stay vigilant about the weather conditions. As we all know, weather can be unpredictable, and it is important to ensure the safety of our students. Please keep an eye out for any updates from the school regarding any weather-related changes or closures. Additionally, I kindly request that you review and update your contact information with the school, so we can reach you promptly in case of any emergencies or important announcements.
I also want to inform you about some exciting events coming up at our school. Our amazing PTO will be hosting a Game Night on January 24. Bring your favorite board game, or play one of ours. We will have snacks to share and also encourage you to bring a picnic-style dinner or a potluck dish to share. With the support of Mindie from Aries Art NW, we will also have a Paint Night on February 9. This event will allow you and your child to perform a guided painting. The cost is $10 per painter to cover the cost of supplies. However, if the cost is a barrier for any of our families, please let me know. We encourage you to mark your calendars and join us for these special evenings.
Our first round of after school clubs will begin at the end of February. Please look for more information coming home soon. We would also appreciate a few parent volunteers for clubs and will have an area on the signup sheet to indicate your interest.
In the month of January, our students will be taking ELA (English Language Arts) and math diagnostic tests. These tests are designed to assess their current academic progress and identify areas where they may need additional support. I encourage you to talk to your children about the importance of these tests and motivate them to do their best. Your support and encouragement play a vital role in their success.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions. We value your partnership and are committed to providing the best educational experience for your children.
Once again, I wish you a joyful New Year. May it bring you and your loved ones happiness, good health, and success.
Warm regards,
Warm regards,
Katie Chavarria

Updates from the School...
- Students should only bring water bottles in the classroom. We have had some issues with juice and sports drinks that spill and leave a sticky mess. Students may bring these options to drink at lunch, if desired.
- If you are planning to pick up another child from their bus stop, please ensure you have communicated with the child's parent and received permission to do so.
- Reminder that toys and stuffed animals are only allowed at school when specifically permitted by a teacher (Stuffie Celebration Day, etc.). Trading (Pokemon) cards are not permitted in school.
- We still try to go outside most days. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.
- If you need to make an afternoon transportation change, please contact the office before 2 pm (12 pm on Wednesdays).
- Cell phones must remain in backpacks during the school day. Phones that are taken out will be held in the office until the end of the day.
Securly
Securly allows you to monitor your child's technology use at school. You should have received an email from Securly to allow you to set up your account. Please contact Heather in the office with any questions.
