Henry Happenings
November 12, 2023
Principal Message
It was a great week at Henry last week. We had Veteran's Day, the book fair, parent/teacher conferences, and fine dining day. It was great to see all of the involvement of our families at these events. This is what makes Henry such a great community!
Did you know that beginning on Monday we are having a food drive competition against Claymont Elementary? Make sure to see the flyer below for more information. We want Henry to win!
Make sure to see information below about the PTO Schoolwide Meeting, Food Drive Competition, World Kindness Day, and other upcoming events!
We will not have another Henry Happenings until 11/27 since next week we only have two days of school. Have a great Thanksgiving Break!
Sincerely,
Dr. Jodi Oliver

Students are being asked to reflect on the qualities of leadership and service that were exemplified by Dr. King, and how they can apply those qualities to their own lives. Grades K-2 and 3-5 can submit a written essay with a poster. All entries should be turned in to Mrs. Herrmann by Monday, December 18th. Please also contact Mrs. Hermann with any questions.
November Notes from Nurse Munch
1. With the cold and flu season starting and common question is: 'When is a child too sick for school?'
A child is too sick for school if:
- They have a fever of greater than 100.4 F or higher. Students need to stay home until they are fever free for 24 hours without taking medication to reduce their fever.
- They have vomiting or diarrhea. They should stay home and rest until they are symptom free for 24 hours.
- Severe cough, persistent sinus or nasal congestion, persistent headache and body aches also usually indicate that a child needs to stay home until they are feeling better.
2. The Special School District will be doing hearing screenings on November 14th at Henry Elementary for students in Grades K, 1, 3 and 5. New students and students receiving special education services will also be screened. If you would like to opt out of screening, please contact Nurse Munch at lmunch@parkwayschools.net.
3. The November Nurse Newsletter has great information on immunity boosting foods, Grandparent Café and exercise you can do at home. You can read this newsletter here: November Nurse Newsletter.
Attendance Emails
The attendance emails will be sent to ALL Henry parents/guardians. Receiving an attendance email is informational and does not necessarily mean there is an attendance concern for your child.
We understand that illnesses happen and some appointments can only be made during school hours, but we appreciate your support toward your child achieving 95% or higher school attendance for the school year!
