November!
PRINCIPAL NEWSLETTER #8: 2021- 2022 SCHOOL YEAR
Dear families,
We had an incredibly fun Halloween Parade on Friday. Student and teacher costumes were excellent and we all needed some big fun to cap a crazy week. I can't wait to see pictures.
We started off this week with a fantastic Bel Aire Play announcement--complete with piano and vocals from Mr. Gist and Marissa . Thank you, PTA!
Here's to another great month at Bel Aire.

2. Please do not block the driveways of our neighbors. Be mindful of where you park, and avoid any driveways--even if it looks like no one is home!

Youth Truth Survey Information
The family Youth Truth survey is now accessible until 11/19. One parent or guardian from each household is invited to take the survey. It's anonymous and takes about 15 minutes. The survey helps us gather feedback about what we are doing well, and how we can improve.

Wednesday, November 3rd from 6:00-7:00pm join us for a presentation with local health experts dedicated to answering questions related to Pediatric Vaccinations.
We have received so many great questions from our school community over the past several weeks regarding Pediatric COVID-19 vaccinations, many of which were addressed by our amazing Public Health, Pediatric and Infectious Disease panelists at our two recent panel discussions. Recordings of those panel discussions may be viewed at the following links:
We anticipate many more questions after the FDA advisory committee meeting yesterday and recommended emergency use authorization for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in children ages 5 to 11 years old.
This is the first, in a series of anticipated steps, that may result in eligibility for 5 to 11-year-olds to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as the first weekend in November.
We have gathered and categorized many additional questions not yet been fully addressed at previous discussions and welcome any additional questions to be submitted by email to rapidresponse@marinschools.org.
Please submit questions by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, November 2nd and our panelists will do their best to address them!
Presentation will be recorded.
Live Spanish translation provided.

November 16th, 17th & 19th – Bel Aire Play “Frozen, Jr.” Auditions
We are thrilled to be able to offer every Bel Aire student the opportunity to participate in this year’s Bel Aire PTA Play, Frozen, Jr. For many years, the play has been and continues to be directed by professional theater, choreography, and vocal/music directors while it’s sponsored and produced by the Bel Aire PTA. This is a unique arts enrichment program for our students and is on par with top Bay Area children’s theater programs. For more information on how to participate, please review the Information Packet and register online by November 15th. Auditions (for 4th & 5th Graders) will be November 16th, 17th, and 19th and rehearsals begin the week of November 29th.
This year, Bel Aire PTA is partnering with Adopt A Family of Marin to support several families (shared across classes in each grade) in our Marin community during the holidays. While this year has come with challenges, Adopt A Family has witnessed neighbors helping neighbors. With our community support, we can make a difference this holiday season. Look for more information coming soon!
The first 50 people to register for this event will receive a free copy of Dr. Carter's book The New Adolescence
Join us for a conversation and Q&A between sociologist Dr. Christine Carter, author of Raising Happiness: Ten Simple Steps for More Joyful Kids and Happier Parents" & The New Adolescence: Raising Happy and Successful Teens in an Age of Anxiety and Distraction and Dr. Mary Niesyn, Principal of RUSD Elementary School.
Dr. Carter and Dr. Niesyn will discuss how our experience of parenting can dramatically change (for the better!) during adolescence, as well as the three key skills today’s kids need -- and how parents can instill them.
In this interactive virtual event, you’ll find practical guidance for providing the support and structure kids need, helping them overcome the distractions that hinder learning, and guidance for protecting them from anxiety, isolation, and depression.
