Guest Teacher Program
with ARIN Intermediate Unit
What is a Guest Teacher?
Guest Teachers are individuals who possess a Bachelor’s Degree, but do not have a Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate (or other state equivalent). These professionals are eligible to obtain an Emergency Permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) which allows them to become a day-to-day substitute teacher.
Individuals wishing to become a Guest Teacher with any of the participating school districts of Armstrong and/or Indiana Counties must complete ARIN’s Orientation Program, submit all required documentation and complete the PDE application process.
Where can a Guest Teacher work?
ARIN Guest Teachers are eligible to substitute, on a day-to-day basis, for any of the following Local Education Agencies:
- ARIN IU 28 Classrooms
- Apollo-Ridge School District
- Armstrong School District
- Homer-Center School District

- Complete and submit your Guest Teacher application and registration fee to the ARIN Central Office.
- Complete the Orientation Program either at the ARIN Central Office (held twice per year) or a virtual program (through Google Classroom - offered twice per year). During this time, you will receive basic training for substitutes, learn about the process and complete a one-on-one interview.
- Once all of the necessary documents are submitted, classroom observations will be assigned.
