Celebrating Gifted

We hope you enjoyed a relaxing week over Thanksgiving and had the opportunity to eat, play, decorate, and shop with family and friends. This month, we are pleased to share information about the GT PAC Parent Symposium, an event BY GT parents and FOR GT parents, taking place virtually December 6-8. The GT Parent Advisory Committee will be hosting its annual GT Parent Symposium. Please join us for the Fall 2022 GT Parent Symposium on December 6 – December 8, 2022 starting at 6:30PM nightly.

PACE (Parents for Academic Excellence) presents, "Coffee with PACE," an event geared toward nurturing the relationships among GT parents in our community. This session will focus on communication at the school level and district level, as well as how communication is a helpful tool for supporting children, parents, and teachers in the educational process. The GT Parent Information Download monthly sessions are moving to the Zoom platform. We are excited about the change and are hoping to minimize technical issues so parents will receive a better experience during these sessions. If you have had problems in the past - give us another try!

Registration will open on December 5, 2022, for FBISD students in grades 3-8 to attend the Coding and Filmmaker's Academy on Saturday, January 21, 2023!

The Fall 2022 Challenge, The World Around Us, was published on November 14! Please visit all of the students' videos to see how they ran with their imaginations to create a hands-on product based on an area of interest!

Family Series YouTube Channel

The "It’s Cold Outside" winter challenge encourages gifted students to use their creativity and thinking skills to develop a product of interest. Options include creating a marshmallow structure, a winter photo challenge, or building a reindeer using sticks that are collected from outdoors. Registration dates are December 5 - 16, 2022, and video submissions are due by January 13, 2023 for upload onto the GT YouTube Channel. Representatives form the Gifted and Talented Department will be visiting campuses in January to share information and application requirements with current GT-identified juniors about the Gifted and Talented Mentorship Program. GT Mentorship is a for-credit, honors-level elective available to GT-identified seniors, and juniors apply during the spring semester of junior year. Students will receive meeting attendance information from their campus directly.

Students should be continuing with their project research and planning their final products during this time. Please be looking for campus-specific information and dates regarding the spring showcase on the campus Gifted and Talented web pages!

GT students continue to work toward completing the academic and social & emotional goals identified for the school year. In January, students will review their goals to clarify their next steps and make any adjustments necessary to meet their goals.
