Principals' Greeting
Hiteon Community,
It was great to see so many parents/guardians at Curriculum Night last night! For those who were unable to attend, we will have the slide show on our website with important information including ensuring your students attend school regularly, how to connect with our parent-teacher organization, and the importance of reading every night.
We hope your students have settled into their new routines and are excited about the year ahead. These first few weeks are always a time of adjustment for both students and parents, so we appreciate your support and cooperation as we navigate this transition together. Adjusting to new schedules, meeting new teachers, and adapting to being in school can be challenging at the beginning of the year. We want you to know that we are here to help and support your students every step of the way.
The following are a few things to keep in mind as we begin an amazing year:
Communication: We encourage open and regular communication between families, teachers, and students. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or to our principals Janet Maza and Jenny Read-Emslie.
Involvement: We value parent involvement in our school community. Whether it’s volunteering, attending PTC meetings, or participating in school events, your engagement is important in supporting our students’ success.
Support: If your child is experiencing any difficulties, academically or socially, please let us know. We have resources and support staff available to help students overcome challenges and to thrive. This year we have Jenny Schmidt as our Student Success Coach, Lauren Wenner as our new Counselor, Hong Hanson as our Academic Coach, and Cynthia Caceres as our new Social Worker. They are a wealth of knowledge and eager to support families and our students.
Stay Informed: Keep an eye on our school newsletters, classroom letters, and the school website for important updates and announcements. There will also be a newsletter sharing information about upcoming events and opportunities for parents to get involved from the Hiteon PTC!
As we move forward in the school year, we look forward to building a strong partnership between home and school to ensure the success and well-being of your children. Thank you for entrusting us with their education and let’s work together to make this a fantastic year at Hiteon!
Janet Maza, Principal
Jenny Read-Emslie, Assistant Principal

Online Verifications Now Open
The Online Verification process through ParentVUE is open. These verifications are meant for currently enrolled students. For safety reasons, we encourage parents to complete the required annual process before school begins. But if you didn't get it done prior to school starting, there is still time to update your student(s) verifications. Verification simply allows parents/guardians to double-check that important information such as emergency contacts and any health/medication requirements are up-to-date in our system.
To complete the Online Verification in ParentVUE, parents/guardians need to click on the “Family Updates and New Student Enrollment” tab in the top right-hand corner to start the verification process. A message will display in their ParentVUE portal with a link to the online verification screens for their review. Those who have a home address outside of our district boundaries, such as inter-district transfers, won’t be able to verify online and will receive a paper form from their school.
If a parent/guardian hasn’t activated their ParentVUE account or if they have access concerns, please contact the main office. If they’ve forgotten their ParentVUE password, they can follow these instructions to reset.

Belonging Begins Here
In BSD, we believe that attendance is an important life skill that helps students be successful in the classroom, graduate on time and be prepared for life beyond high school. The desire to attend school regularly starts with students feeling a sense of belonging. We want our classrooms, schools and district to be places where students develop meaningful relationships with staff and other students. But to forge those connections, students need to show up for school. Belonging Begins Here

Hiteon's Daily Attendance Schedule
7:45 - Doors open & Cafeteria opens for breakfast
8:00 - School promptly begins
2:35 - Dismissal
Attendance is very important to student success!
According to BSD policy absences that are not medical in nature, such as vacations, will be marked as unexcused absence.
Tardy: School begins promptly at 8:00am.
Students that are not seated at their desk at 8:00am are considered tardy.
Unless they are in the cafeteria having breakfast. Unfortunately, this means that students that are in vehicles in the parking lot are still considered late if they enter the building at 8:01am.
Early Arrival: For your child’s safety, students must NOT arrive at school before 7:45am there is no adult supervision prior to 7:45.
Dismissal: Again, for student safety, all students must be picked up from school at dismissal time 2:35pm. There is no supervision after 2:35. Unless the student is involved in a supervised after-school activity. Students who stay on school property past dismissal of 2:35pm must have parent supervision.

BSD Meals Benefits
Hello amazing people,
Attached is the Meal Benefits application for the 2023-2024 school year.
- We are strongly recommending that families apply for Meal Benefits online this year at www.schoolcafe.com/beavertonsd.
- Families can download the SchoolCafe app and apply on their phones.
- Families can go to their local library and apply online at www.schoolcafe.com/beavertonsd.
Paper applications take longer to process, sometimes get lost in transit, and are often incomplete, so applications might get delayed or denied. But if you need to do a paper application, you can print if from the above line or visit the main office.

Estimadas familias:

The information you have on record with the school will be included in the 2023-2024 Hiteon Elementary School Directory. Once completed, the directory will be sent to you via ParentSquare in October. If your family does not have a ParentSquare account, please email INFO@hiteonptc.org to request that the directory be emailed to you. Please note that this directory will be published online and should not be used for public distribution.
To OPT OUT of being included in the directory, please complete this FORM. The deadline to complete this form is September 29, 2023. If you have any questions, please email INFO@hiteonptc.org.
