Maple Lawn first-graders publish ‘Kindness’ book
Maple Lawn 1st-graders in Mrs. Long’s class are published authors! In the professionally hardbound book, titled “Kindness,” the students write and illustrate what kindness is to them and how they show that act of kindness to others. Of course the impressive project wouldn’t be complete without a publishing party for the “amazing authors.” The school’s library proudly displays a copy of the book, which is also available for purchase.

SBLSD monitoring nationwide TikTok post
We’re aware of a post being circulated on the social media platform TikTok. The post refers to a threat to school safety “for every school in the USA, even elementary,” rumored to take place on Dec. 17. The post has not been deemed credible by local law enforcement. It appears to be part of a national TikTok trend and did not originate within our school district.
In taking the safety of your child seriously, we are in regular contact with law enforcement and have many other safety and security measures in place. If we receive threats specific to our schools, we will take immediate action and work with police who will investigate and take appropriate actions against anyone who makes or sends threatening messages.
How families can help
- Please monitor your child’s social media activity, and avoid their sharing of posts that refer to school safety threats. This can cause stress and anxiety for our students, families and staff.
- Although there are no current threats toward SBLSD schools, it’s important for school communities to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious. Please notify the police, a school staff member or trusted adult right away. You may also report a threat through our anonymous Report It system via phone, text, email or web.
Thank you for your partnership as we work to ensure a safe, secure, and positive learning environment for our students.
