Lockport District 91 will be offering Parent-Teacher Conferences in person and virtually this year. In-person conferences will be held on Monday, November 20th from 12:30pm-4pm & 5:30-8pm. Virtual conferences will be held on Tuesday, November 21st from 8:30am-11:30am and 12:30-3pm. Parents/guardians must schedule a conference time through Meet the Teacher.
The system allows you to choose your own appointment times with teachers from the teachers' available appointments. If you choose Monday - the in-person date, you will simply come to the school at the appointed time. If you choose Tuesday's virtual meetings, you will log back in and use the Meet the Teacher website to efficiently video conference with any teacher you have set an appointment with. Please see the parent guide linked here for details about the user experience, or watch the video linked here.
Beginning November 1, guardians are asked to visit: https://lockport91.meettheteacher.com/
Logging in is simple and uses information you already know. After entering your name and your child(ren)'s identifying information, you will be able to create conference appointments with any teacher in your child(ren)'s schedule. After registering, parents/guardians will receive an email confirmation with a link to access the conferences along with an option to add the meetings to their calendar. If you cannot locate the email, please check your spam folder or log back into the site to verify your schedule. Appointments and changes can only be made until November 12th.
If you do not have access to the internet, please contact the school office who will be happy to add appointments on your behalf. This is the only formal conference that we will offer throughout the year, though we encourage you to contact your child’s teacher whenever you have questions or concerns.
Thank you for all of your support, we look forward to connecting with you for conferences this fall!

A MESSAGE FROM MRS. DRAGOSH REGARDING ATTENDANCE
District 91 requires parents/guardians to contact the Attendance Office at (815) 838-0737 extension 1, PRIOR TO 9 a.m. whenever a child will be late to school or will be absent for any part of the school day.
The message must contain the following information:
1. Student’s first and last name, their grade, and a teacher name.
2. Detailed reason or symptom for the absence or why the student will be late to school (students that are not called in or are called in without a reason are considered TRUANT and unexcused, and will be reported as such).
3. Your name, relationship to the student, and a call back number.
A ParentSquare notification is sent out to parents/guardians who have not called in their child by 9 a.m. and have not signed in by 9 a.m., and to parents/guardians that only indicate their child “will not be in school” or are “out due to a family emergency” requesting the parent/guardian contact the Attendance Office immediately to advise the details of the absence. Family emergencies may be considered an excused absence depending on the details that are provided. If you fail to contact the Attendance Office the child will be marked truant. Student attendance is crucial to student success.
Appointments during the school day are discouraged, but we also understand that nowadays there can be no other choice. If your child needs to be dismissed anytime during the day (e.g., dental or doctor appointment), please notify the Attendance Office prior to the absence. Proof of the appointment is required in order for the absence to be considered excused. See student/parent handbook on our website regarding make up work and/or a pre-arranged absence.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 815-838-0737 ext. #1104 or you can email me at cdragosh@d91.net.

MEMOS FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
During this time of year we tend to see a higher incidence of strep throat, respiratory and gastrointestinal illness. To minimize infection, we recommend:
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.
Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. In order to maintain proper hygiene, hands NEED to be washed with soap and water AFTER the 5th application of an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. Wash hands immediately after.
Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like the flu.
In addition to everyday preventative measures, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends for everyone 6 months and older to get a seasonal influenza vaccine each year. It is important to be mindful of when this is administered. Receiving the vaccine too early or too late means that it may not protect you during the peak flu season. The peak of flu season is typically in February.
Along with these typical illnesses, we are seeing a much higher prevalence of Hand, Foot, & Mouth Disease (HFMD) and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in all age ranges.
HFMD is highly contagious. Common symptoms include fever, fatigue, & sores on hands/feet/mouth. It is important to note that the rash may be anywhere on the body, and is not limited to just the hands/feet/mouth. The rash will usually clear up after one week.
RSV is a common respiratory virus strain. Adults usually experience mild, cold-like symptoms whereas infants, young children, and elderly have more severe symptoms which can result in hospitalizations.
It is important to increase fluids to remain hydrated and rest when your body is tired to allow your body to recover from both of these illnesses.
As always, please remember ALL medication needs a medication authorization form (which is available in the office and online) on file in the nurse’s office AND the medication must be in its original container with the label adhered to it. Cough drops, supplements, and over the counter (OTC) medications are included in this. Please contact us with any changes in your student’s medications or the development of any health concerns during the school year. It is important that your student’s health record is kept current.
Finally, with the cold winter weather setting in, PLEASE send students to school with appropriate outerwear including coats, hats, and gloves/mittens.

Gratitude Is An Attitude
Gratitude can change everything! With Thanksgiving around the corner, we are reminded more now than ever to think about things in our lives for which we can be thankful. Gratitude is choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives. Showing someone kindness and gratitude is a genuine and easy way to make life better for ourselves and all the people around us. With the holidays approaching, it may be especially hard for those who do not get to spend a lot of time with their family & friends. Times like these are important to show more gratitude to help show people their importance and appreciation. There are a surplus of ways to thank those in our lives such as: offering help, words of thanks, notes of thanks, or a small gift. Expressing gratitude is associated with mental and physical benefits. Encourage your student to share positivity and thanks everyday and most importantly during the upcoming holiday season. If expressing gratitude is not only good for others but also ourselves, why not divulge ourselves in it?
GRATITUDE AT HOME
#1- Daily gratitude sharing. This is a great way to start building more connections. This makes for a positive conversation. Sharing what we are grateful for can be during dinner, the car ride to school, before bedtime, or whatever time best suits your family.
#2 - Gratitude jar. Once a day or a few times a week write on a note what you're grateful for. Add the notes to the jar and establish a day in which you will empty the jar. A specific day such as Thanksgiving or New Years Eve is a good time to reflect on the whole family's and individual's blessings.
#3 - Gratitude Journal. Writing is not for everyone but journaling is a good way to jot down and be able to reflect on the things you are grateful for. It works as a visual and gives you the opportunity to look back and reflect. You can write a story about what you are grateful for or even make a list of what it is you are grateful for.
#4- Giving to others. One way of promoting gratitude is to give back to others. There are opportunities all year to collect/deliver food, toys to children, winter coats, and more. Reaching out to others makes us more kind and compassionate but also more appreciative of what we have.
