Principal Note
5 Essentials Parent Survey
District 303 participates in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey, which collects feedback from our students (4th and 5th graders), teachers, and parents. The feedback is an important component of the school improvement process, so I hope you take a moment to share your thinking about your child’s experiences at Munhall. The survey window is currently open and closes on March 22, 2022.
Below is a variety of helpful links regarding the 5Essentials Survey, including a link to the login page for parents:

Friendship Parties
Our students will embrace the concept of friendship, kindness, and community during our Friendship Parties on Monday, February 14th. Room parents will work with classroom teachers regarding the timing of the parties. As a reminder, no food should be brought into classrooms for parties, including as part of a Goodie Bag. In addition, all parent volunteers need to show proof of being fully vaccinated, or submit a negative COVID-19 tests within 72 hours of the party date.
8:00 Bell—13th Avenue Carpool Lane
The month of January has certainly led to more car riders, which has influenced our traffic flow at the 13th Avenue carpool lane. A few reminders regarding the safety and timeliness of our carpool lanes.
Please enter and exit the carpool lane with caution.
Students should exit the sidewalk side of the vehicle.
Parents should remain in vehicles
Vehicles should pull forward as much as possible and follow the directions of the supervisors.
Be patient and kind to one another.
In addition, I have noticed that as we approach 8:00, our carpool lane is still extending well beyond Rita Avenue. As a reminder, we have a carpool lane in the front of the building as well. If you’re noticing extremely long lines at 13th Avenue, it might be advantageous to proceed to the carpool lane in the main parking lot.
Hearing and Vision Screening
Please see the information from the Health Office below regarding our annual Hearing and Vision Screening. In short, hearing screening is mandated for elementary students in kindergarten, first, second and third grades. Vision is mandated for kindergarten and second grade for those students who do not have a current vision exam.
Cleaning of equipment will take place and social distancing guidelines will be followed. In light of this, if you DO NOT want your child screened, email Sherry Wisdom sherry.wisdom@d303.org.
Empower
During the month of January, students in Empower are going to be experiencing a new module! Students in Kindergarten through fifth grades are going to be delving into the areas of communication. They will be utilizing various media tools in the Show it Off module!
Kindergarten Registration
It is hard to believe we are already planning the 2022-2023 school year! Kindergarten registration officially opens on Monday and goes through February 25th. If you have a child that will be of kindergarten age next school year, please see the informational flyer attached to the eNews.
Have a great weekend!

A Note from the Nurse's Office
Each year students receiving special education, those new to the State of Illinois, and those in mandated grades have vision and hearing screening performed by our vision hearing screener or a Certified School Nurse. Munhall is scheduled for this routine screening the week of January 31 and February 7 and may be done as needed or as is feasible the rest of the school year. Screening requires the screener to put headphones on your child for hearing screening and may involve your child putting their head into a vision screening machine if a touchless vision camera is not available. Cleaning of equipment will take place and social distancing. In light of this if you DO NOT want your child screened, email Sherry Wisdom sherry.wisdom@d303.org. Hearing screening is mandated for elementary students in kindergarten, first, second and third grades. Vision is mandated for kindergarten and second grade for those who do not have a current vision exam.
