Falcon's Nest
Alcova Elementary School
February 2, 2024
Dear Alcova Community,
As we move into February, I am grateful for the continued support from our fantastic school community. Your involvement and enthusiasm contribute to the positive learning environment we strive to maintain at Alcova. This month brings a variety of events and activities. We look forward to the many opportunities for our students to learn and grow.
This month at Alcova, we are celebrating the many contributions of African Americans with a door decorating contest, guest speakers, Fact Finder Trivia opportunities, and even a special wax museum presentation. The decorations throughout the building will focus on celebrating the past, educating the present, and inspiring the future.
Parents, we are in the thick of teaching and learning at Alcova. Students in 1st-5th grade are working hard to prepare for the interim three assessments in March and the end of year District and Milestones assessments in April. This is the optimal time to check in with your child to hold them accountable for their current learning. Here are some ways you can stay connected:
1. Regular communication with teachers
2. Use online portals to monitor academic progress
3. Establish and consistently maintain a homework routine
4. Review and discuss assignments
5. Attend school events
6. Read together
7. Encourage goal setting
8. Celebrate Achievements
Some of the other upcoming exciting opportunities for February are:
● February 5-12 Penny Wars (sponsored by PTA)
● February 5-9 Counselor Appreciation Week
● February 8th Dacula Cluster Schools featured at GCPS Board Meeting 7:00 pm
● February 15-19 Student/Teacher Holiday (School closed)
● February 24th VIP and Me Dance (sponsored by PTA)
We appreciate your continued support and partnership

Nation Counseling Week February 5-9
National School Counseling Week recognizes the vital roles school counselors play in the lives of our students. A counselor helps students when they face adversity, trouble at home, academic performance, and relationship issues. A few ways we can show our counselors we care are:
· Notes of appreciation
· Sweet treats or salty snacks
· Flowers or plants
· Gift cards
Let’s make our Alcova counselors feel special.
