February/March Parent Newsletter
Winter NWEA testing has concluded and OST preparation has begun!
We ask that parents continue to remind students of the importance of remaining focused during the state tests, getting a good night's rest and eating a healthy breakfast the morning of the test. Education research has shown that students who do these little things have a significant chance of scoring "proficient" on standardized tests. Finally, a special "Shout Out!" to Mrs. Misconish and her 3rd grade class that had the highest number of proficient students in both ELA and Math than any other grade level in the building! Keep up the great work Hornets!
Hornet Track and Field Season is Underway!
Over thirty-five 6th/7th/8th graders have expressed an interest in participating in the 2024 Miles Park Track and Field team this Spring. Coaches Montrose and Young expect students to exhibit academic success in each of their classes with maintenance of a "C+" average or higher. In addition, the Coaches expect the students to demonstrate Hornet Character traits when in classes, hallways and in the lunchroom. Come out to see the Track and Field team practicing after school as they jog around the perimeter. Good luck Hornet Student-Athletes!
Black History Month Museum comes to Miles Park!
On behalf of the Family and Community Engagement Committee, students were given an opportunity to learn all about African-Americans that have made significant contributions to the history of the United States and the world. Mrs. Spencer and Mrs. Calhoun, along with community members, put together a "museum" so that students could walk through and learn more about these outstanding contributors to American History! Way to go Mrs. Spencer and Mrs. Calhoun and committee members!
