SNOWY DAYS AHEAD!
As we head into the colder winter months we wanted to make sure all families were aware of what these NTI days will look like at Piner. On the days that school closes and NTI days are used, students will have assignments (either online or previously sent in a folder) to complete at home. On the first NTI day students will complete NTI Day #1 assignments, on the second NTI day they will complete NTI Day#2 assignments, and so forth. These NTI assignments will be a review of content previously taught or it will be a practice of skills that have been worked on throughout the year. All NTI assignments are expected to be completed and submitted the day of (if online) or completed the day of and brought back to school the following day or the next day we return to in person instruction (if not online) for student participation to be counted.
Teachers and staff may or may not report to work depending on the weather, but they will always be available on NTI days to assist students and parents by phone, email, Google Meet, Google Voice, etc. during the NTI days. Teachers will be communicating their specific NTI Day information with you.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
Every Student, Every Day
IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE INFORMATION
As a reminder, if your student is absent, please make sure to call the school to inform our staff of the absence. When your student returns to school, send a parent or doctor note for the absent date(s). An attendance note (parent note or doctor note) is required within three (3) days any time your child is out of school, including late arrivals and early dismissals. If your child is experiencing COVID - related symptoms, a doctor’s note or negative COVID test is required to return.
Keep in mind that a maximum of ten (10) excused days each year may be excused with a signed note from a parent/guardian OR doctor.
If there are more than ten (10) days excused, a Medical Excuse Form must be completed, stating the student was seen in the doctor’s office, and returned for review by school officials within three (3) days of the absence, for the absence to be excused. A new form will need to be submitted for each absence after 10 days and will be considered a doctor's note.
If students are in quarantine due to a positive Covid test or exposure, families have one of two options.
1. Remain in quarantine until the determined return date and participate in instruction synchronously. Teachers will contact parents regarding synchronous learning, if this option is chosen. If a student does not participate in synchronous learning it will be considered an unexcused absence and students will still be expected to make up the work.
or
2. If exposed, your student can enter into the KCSD Test to Stay Program. You can find more information about this program on the KCSD Website and on the KCSD Test to Stay Criteria and Protocols document.
