Keeping Kids Safe on the Internet

In the coming weeks, our middle school students will be learning about dangers that are associated with overuse of technology and the negative impact of social media. So you can also be aware of these dangers, we are sharing information that will be included in their lessons.

According to the Journal of American Academy of Pediatrics, the use of social media is growing and the average age of use is dropping. While there are positive impacts of the internet and social media, there are also many risks and dangers for young people who do not have the cognitive maturity to make sound decisions about the amount of time on the internet, content and sharing of information, cyberbullying, and comparisons with others. Pictured below is one of our seventh grade students, Vincent, with some of the donations he has collected for the Warrensburg Animal Shelter. Vincent began this charity station as part of the George Bailey project in Mrs. Chambers' ELA class. Students are encouraged to think about how they can positively impact those around them in big ways and small ways. Monetary donations and supplies are still being collected for the animal shelter if you'd like to contribute. Thank you to all the students and teachers who have given so far, and thank you to Vincent for fighting for a good cause!
