As we head into the final few weeks of school, we want to know your family’s plan as we prepare and staff our classrooms for next year. We also want to make sure we get back any library books and classroom materials before you head off for summer.
Self Care for Students and Adults
It is important to remember that everyone needs to be aware of Self Care and doing Self Care. We can’t help others if we are not taking care of ourselves first.
Some things to try today...
Take Deep Breaths ~ Treat Myself and Others with Kindness
Ask for Help ~ Create Art or Build Something
Exercise ~ Use Positive Self Talk
Stretch your body ~ Focus on the Good/Gratitude
Observe Nature ~ Talk about It/Write It Down
Resources for Families to Meet Social and Emotional Needs
During difficult times for children and adults alike, there are some great resources through the Second Step website. This is the social-emotional curriculum that we use at school. It has resources for calming down, exploring consequences of our actions, making amends, and problem solving. Second Step Resources
Thank you for making sure your students are here on time each day and ready to learn. We appreciate our partnership with parents and families in helping our students grow socially, emotionally, and academically. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at presleyj@monroe.wednet.edu or at 360-804-3400.
Sincerely,
Jeff Presley

Memorial Day Weekend - No school Friday, 5/26 and Monday, 5/29
To many, Memorial Day symbolizes the unofficial start of summer, but what is the holiday for exactly?
The American holiday, marked by parades and ceremonies, and observed on the last Monday of May, is an opportunity to honor military personnel who died while serving in the U.S. military.
Originally known as Decoration Day, it began during the American Civil War when citizens placed flowers on the graves of those who had been killed in battle. After World War I, it came to be observed in honor of those who had died in all U.S. wars, and its name changed to Memorial Day.

WATCH D.O.G.S.
The Dads of Great Students WATCH D.O.G.S. program is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement, organizations designed and developed by educators, experts and parent & guardian volunteers over more than two decades.
Our programs for Elementary and Secondary School campuses help provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. Meanwhile, we provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security, reduce bullying and provide a greater sense of campus safety allowing students and teachers to focus on learning and instruction.
Who are Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students)?
Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures serve on campus for one day or many each year under the leadership of a program coordinator and under the guidance of a school principal or designated administrator.
If you are interested in signing up for a day, please stop by our office to check out our Watch D.O.G.S. calendar.
