Hello McPherson Families,

This week, we have make up picture day for students who missed the original picture day or who need to retake their pictures on Tuesday, October 10. Our Education Foundation is also hosting an ice cream social event for families on Tuesday, 10/10, at 6:10 or 6:30 pm. Children will have a fun time while parents here about all of the great things our Ed Foundation does for McPherson! We also have a school spirit day on Wednesday. Wear all of the pink that you can to support Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Lastly, our PTSA Fall Fundraiser collected over $36,000! Prizes will be distributed as soon as possible and I am looking forward to spending a day on roller skates! Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to our fundraiser.

Hello McPherson Families!

I have a few reminders for all our McPherson Meteors.

Our students should NEVER climb on the school's soccer goals or back fences. Our close neighbors have dogs and we want to make sure that none of our students invade their territory because dogs can bite. If balls go over the fence, please let the office staff know.

A special welcome to our new security guard, Jeno Jorgensen who is helping us keep our campus safe. Please introduce yourself at drop off or pick up.

Congratulations to our Sr. Staff Clerk, Angeles Valerio, who has taken a job as Office Manager at Fletcher Elementary. We will miss you but know you will do GREAT THINGS at Fletcher.

Congratulations to all the students at McPherson! This year the Orange Unified School District is tracking student attendance. Since school began in August, McPherson students have shown their dedication to learning by attending school.

Our Middle School students had the highest attendance for secondary schools from August to September and earned a BBQ lunch provided by the OUSD Nutrition Services on Friday, October 13.

Our Elementary Students earned the Most Improved Attendance for similar size elementary schools and earned a Pizza Party lunch on Monday, October 23 provided by OUSD Nutrition Services.

Congratulations McPherson! Your daily attendance matters!

Picture retake day is Tuesday, October 10. Only those students having their picture taken can wear free dress. If your student is having their picture retaken, they MUST BRING THE FOLDER THEY RECEIVED FROM THE PREVIOUS PICTURE DAY. ALSO, ANY STUDENT THAT HAS NOT HAD THEIR PICTURE TAKEN WILL DO SO ON OCTOBER 10.

Have you ever wondered what the McPherson Education Foundation is, who's involved on its board, what they do, and why they fundraise to support the school?

The McPherson Education Foundation Board is hosting an ice cream social (while supplies last). On Tuesday, October 10th, for anyone and everyone interested in learning more. There will be two 15-minute sessions you can choose to attend at 6:10 or 6:30 in the school library. Ice Cream social on the patio between the 400 and 300 buildings. Breast Cancer Awareness Month - Wear PINK on 10/11 & DONATE $

Breast Cancer Awareness Day at McPherson Wear Pink CLOTHING on Wednesday, October 11. We want to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We are asking for a small donation ($2 suggested). Your donation will go to help those battling cancer battling breast cancer. Please place your donation in a small envelope marked “Breast Cancer Donation”. Envelopes are also located on the front counter. Leadership will be coming to each class to pick up donations on Wednesday, October 11, or you may drop your donation off at the front office. (No other colors of clothing-this is not a free dress day-PINK ONLY).

BOOK LOVERS UNITE!!

It's that time of year again for our fall Scholastic book fair!!!

October 16th- 20th

Students will be able to shop during their library time, lunch, recess and after school until 3pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Book Fair will close at 1pm on Wednesday 10/18 and will be packed up concluding our Lunch on the lawn on 10/20.

Kindergarten: 11:35 to 12:20

1st through 2nd Grade: 11:20 to 12:05

3rd through 5th Grade: 11:49 to 12:26

6th through 8th Grade: 12:34-1:09

• Parents or family members may bring lunch, picnic baskets, lawn chairs or blankets and a book to the McPherson Literacy Lunch (easy ups and umbrellas are also allowed, and the entire grassy lawn area is available to use). School lunch is still available for all students.

• We will open the Palmyra gate located on the north east side of campus (on Palmyra) at 11:15am. Please be sure to park in our parking lots as the north side of Palmyra is parking by permit only. You may drop off family members at the Palmyra gate that are not able to walk from the Prospect lot.
• Students 1st through 5th will line up on the playground by teacher name during the first 5 minutes of the schedule ABOVE (please be sure to note that lunch schedules vary by grade level). After students are in line for 5 minutes they will be released to eat lunch and play. No one will be eating in the quad area near the cafeteria as everyone will enjoy lunch and a book on the lawn.
• ·Students that get school lunch will be picking it up before they line up. Please make sure your student knows if you are coming with lunch, they should not get a school lunch on Friday.
• PLEASE GO TO THE LIBRARY AND VISIT THE BOOKFAIR DURING LUNCH! THEY WILL BE OPEN FOR BUSINESS.
• Administration will make announcements for students to line up at the end of each lunch period. Please be sure to encourage students to line up at this time and then ONLY parents will exit out through the Palmyra gate. We want to make sure that everyone has exited and the gate is locked by 1:20.
• Should you want to check your student out after Literacy Lunch, you will need to check your student out.

We have a few middle school students who will be participating in the cross-country race at Villa Park High School on Wednesday, October 25th. If anyone else is interested, please email Ms. Manion at lmanion@orangeusd.org. The course is 2 miles and starts at 2:00 PM.

Is your student interested in art, music, dance, writing, producing film or taking photos? Encourage your child to showcase their talents by participating in the national PTA reflections program. California State PTA and its members, families and kids are on the forefront of this amazing program, which increases community awareness of the importance of arts in education.This year's theme is "I am Hopeful Because..." There are opportunities for awards and fun prizes just for participating!

Football/Volleyball practice begins the 3rd week of October. The first Football/Volleyball game will be on November 6. Please be sure to complete all required documentation for your student to participate. Please make sure the Athletic Packet is turned in for your student before practice begins. The sports packet must be turned in to the McPherson front office by Thursday, October 12. IF YOU ALREADY TURNED IN YOUR PACKET WITH THE SPORTS YOU WOULD BE PLAYING FOR THE YEAR, YOU DO NOT NEED TO TURN IT IN AGAIN.

All 3rd-grade students are tested in their classrooms unless parents "opt out "of testing.
