This is an exciting time for Camrose as we start planning the 2025 opening of our new Catholic high school in the Valleyview community. The selection of a school name is a significant step for establishing a new school community. At this time, we want to engage our greater school community to help select a name for our new school.

The name of a school symbolizes the beginning of a new and united community. The culture and ethos of the school community will evolve from the name of the Catholic school. The intention of the name is to support the mission of the Catholic school to be consistent with the mission of the Catholic Church and to establish and deepen the relationship of everyone in the school with the person of Jesus Christ as members of his Body, and the Church.

Guiding principles for naming an EICS educational facility:

1. First consideration is given to an aspect of the mystery of Jesus Christ (e.g. Christ the King, Good Shepherd, Holy Trinity, Holy Name of Jesus)

2. Second consideration, in accordance to Our Lady, who may be named under one of her many titles (e.g. Our Lady of Grace) or in relation to her life (e.g. Nativity of Our Lady, Assumption of Mary)

3. Third consideration, the name of a canonized saint may be considered, since canonization is a declaration to the universal Church that the one canonized is worthy of imitation.

4. Fourth consideration, the name of a former Pope could be considered, or the name associated with heavenly beings such as angels.

5. Fifth consideration, the name of a person associated with the founding of Catholic education in Alberta may also be considered, provided there has arisen around them a reputation for sanctity and dedication to Christ and His Church.

The survey will be open until the end of day September 20th.

The Elk Island Catholic Schools Board of Trustees will select the name of the school based on the suggestions provided. The name will then be revealed to the community on October 21st, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at the GrACE Community Engagement Evening.

Our International conversation club did an outstanding job promoting their food and culture. The food was delicious! Mrs. Depaz-Gendreau-thank you for your leadership!!

Last year a contest was run for students to design a logo for Orange Shirt Day. With that design we are making shirts to sell in order to raise funds for the Orange Shirt Society. Donations help Phyllis Webstad and the Orange Shirt Society raise awareness across Canada about the Indian Residential Schools and their continuing impacts on individuals, families and communities, and to promote the concept of "Every Child Matters." Sarah Mallo in grade 5 (last year) was the winner and her design is being displayed on the orange shirts being made at the school.

If you would like to order one of these shirts, it is a TWO STEP process.

1. First, you must complete the Orange Shirt Order Form by Monday, September 19 at 10:00pm as the turnaround time is very short in order to have them ready before Orange Shirt Day.
2. Second, we will enter the orders received onto the PowerSchool fee program. In order to receive the T-shirt, payments must be completed. Sizes are adult unisex.

Each shirt is $20 with $5 from each shirt going to the Orange Shirt Society.

SCHOOL FEES: Payment can be made through the parent portal in Powerschool or in person. Please view your account throughout the year as student courses may be added or changed.

Note: 2022-2023 School Fees will be available on student accounts once all option courses have been selected.

For any families who require financial assistance with school fees, Elk Island Catholic Schools offers a fee waiver program. All necessary forms should be completed and submitted no later than December 12, 2022. Every year consent forms must be completed for students in PowerSchool. This consent allows students to attend class activities and field trips, to use a locker in our school, and to use the WiFi and technology accounts provided by EICS. There is an alarming number of consents that still have not been signed. Please do not delay, your child will miss out!

How to Sign Consent

1. Login to the PowerSchool Parent Portal (not the child's).
2. Click the tab in the top left for your child.
3. At the top you will see a red box explaining you need to give yearly consent. Click the link in the box.
4. For each category you must complete the drop down by checking yes or no.
5. Once you are done all areas, click SUBMIT.
6. REPEAT FOR EACH CHILD IN EICS.

Reminder for parents:

Your child/children's consent forms must to be done in Powerschool prior to the Terry Fox Run on Tuesday.

HOT LUNCH INFORMATION- Hot lunch will be available on Wednesdays again this year. All orders are to be placed and paid for through the parent portal of powerschool (under Student Fees).

September Hot Lunch - We are able to offer hot lunch for September (Panago Pizza-Sept 21st) and (Bar Burrito-Sept 28th). September orders can be made between September 2nd and September 11th only. We apologize for the short time frame this month.

October Hot Lunch - is available to order from September 2nd - September 25th.

Hot lunch orders for the remainder of the school year(Nov-June) will be available to order between the 10th and 21st of each month for the following month. All dates will be posted in the weekly SMORE.

Yearbooks have now been distributed to all students who purchased one for the 2021-2022 school year. There are a few extra yearbooks available to purchase. Cost is $45.00. Please contact Lorinda Twitchell to place your order at lorindatw@eics.ab.ca.

Dear Parents,

Please make alternate plans for pick-up/drop-off location as our Staff parking lot is no longer available as an option. This area has become far too congested in the past and is an extreme OH&S concern. Please follow the flow of traffic in the Student parking lot on the South side of our building. You will notice that there is no longer a "turn left" option (right turns only) when you exit the parking lot. Alternatively, please also look at streets/locations (other than alleys) that are close to our school where students can safely access our school site. While we understand that this takes away some convenience, we are more concerned about the safety of your children.
