Montessori Education Week
Get ready for an exciting week ahead as we dive into the wonders of Montessori Education! This week, we'll be celebrating the brilliance of Maria Montessori's educational philosophy that shapes our classrooms.
In our Montessori classrooms, every day is a journey of discovery. From thoughtfully designed environments to engaging hands-on activities, our students are encouraged to explore, learn, and grow.
Montessori education celebrates the unique strengths and interests of each child. Our classrooms provide a nurturing space for kids to thrive, building confidence and a love for learning.
Our Lead Guides will be sharing personal reflections on the impact of Montessori principles in their teaching. Gain insights into how this approach shapes their perspectives on education.
Join us for an open house this Wednesday, Feb 28th from 5:30-6:30. Explore our classrooms, engage in hands-on activities, and discover the philosophy that drives our commitment to educational excellence.
As we celebrate Montessori Education Week, let's look forward to a future of continued growth and success. Your support and involvement make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students.
Today our Mayor of Key West, Teri Johnston, presented us with a proclamation for Montessori Education Week. I look forward to our community being more aware of what we do and why we do it!
Thank you for being an essential part of our Montessori community.
Trading Cards No Longer Allowed at School
Pokemon and other trading cards are a lot of fun and hold a wonderful place in my heart. They allow for creativity, reading, strategy, and so much more. However, they also create a distraction as well as unnecessary disagreements on the playground or other areas of the school.
Please instruct your children to keep their cherished trading cards at home, encourage them to play on the weekends or after school together. We love our students to be creative, but there is a time and place for that. Lead Guides will be instructed to hold onto any cards if they are seen and then will return them at dismissal. If it happens more than once, we will have the families come and collect them from the office. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
If we have a parent or two that would like to host a card trading or game time after school, we would love the opportunity for the students to share cards during a supervised time. Please contact Ms. Sandy if you are interested in coordinating this kind of event.
Talent Show This Thursday
Join us this Thursday under the Chickee for our First Annual Talent Show! The show will begin at 2:00 sharp and will run for approximately 1 hour. We have several students from all program levels who will be participating in this exciting showcase. We invite all families as well as the entire student body. See you all there!
Performers: Please remember that you have a dress rehearsal this Wednesday immediately after school until 4:00pm.
Books Needed
Do you have books lying around that you would like to donate? This Saturday, May Sands Montessori will have a booth at the Co-op's Spring Fair and we will be giving away books! We are looking forward to connecting with families and sharing more about our school. Please drop off any books to the main office by Friday, March 1st.
Diaper Drive
From the Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition:
It has officially kicked off! For the entire month of February, we will have diaper drop-off locations county-wide. Please help us reach our goal of 10k diapers and 10k in monetary donations. There are so many ways that YOU can help:
Drop off diapers at your school
Donate dollars for diapers through our website, Cashapp, or Paypal
Shop diapers directly from our Amazon Wish list
Don't have the funds to support our diaper drive? Sharing our information is FREE and a wonderful way to help us get the word out! Did you know that 1 in 2 U.S. families cannot afford enough diapers to keep their infant or child clean, dry, and healthy? You can help us keep our Keys Babies dry! Be sure to follow us on Facebook & Instagram for diaper drive updates!
Please drop off any diapers at our front office right inside the door. Let's help those in our community who are in need!
Sailing Lessons: Second Round!
Beginning March 29, students age 8 and up can join our Friday Sailing Program in partnership with the Key West Community Sailing Center. The school will transport students to the sailing center in time for the program to begin at 1pm. Students will be dismissed for the day from the sailing center and families can pick up their students at the sailing center at 3:00pm. Space is limited to 12 students.
This Program requires pre-registration. The second session goes for 6 weeks (March 29-May 3) and cost is $150 per student. You can register your child(ren) at https://keywestsailingcenter.app.neoncrm.com/eventReg.jsp?event=2334&
Scholarships are available to families for whom the fee would be a financial burden, just contact Sandy@maysandsmontessori.com to inquire.
