We have a great week ahead of us! Here are some important highlights:

Black History Month

This week, we will continue exploring and learning together about the struggles, contributions, major events, and heroes that make up America's Black History. Below, you will find an incredible resource created for you by our PTA's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee: the PTA Cultural Calendar for February. When you open this link, you will find resources on Black History. We hope you find it educational.

Supply Pick-Up, Wednesday 10:00-3:00pm

On Wednesday, we will have a HUGE supply pick-up day. Please enter through the Staff Lounge, grab your supplies, and then exit to the Staff Parking Lot. There will be lots of supplies for students to collect including Makerspace Items, Art Items, Math Kits, and supplies from your teachers. Also, if you earned an award from the Kids Heart Challenge, you can pick up your prize! All students should come pick up supplies either Wednesday, February 10th or February 17th. Once you are in the Parking Lot, the PTA is holding their dollar book sale. Stock up on some new titles. See the flyer below.

We all need community right now! Join our school-wide virtual Valentine's Day Dance and Kahoot Party on Friday, February 12th at 6:30. See the flyer below!

A Message from the Superintendent

Here is the latest communication from our Superintendent, Leslie Lockhart. February 4th, 2021 Update. In this update, Superintendent Lockhart shares the most recent plans for reopening.

Attention 5th Grade!

Be sure to pick up your supplies on Wednesday, February 10th. Inside your Math Kit is directions and paper to be used to create your tile that we will place on our legacy wall. Start thinking about the art you'd like to create! What legacy will you leave?

The Outdoor Library reopens this week! During the month of February, you may visit on WEDNESDAYS during the lunch hour from 11:45-1:15 on the Principal's Patio just off the Staff Parking Lot. If your student has any special book or topic requests, please email laramehl@ccusd.org.

Here is a message from the CCUSD School and Family Services Department

Age of Eligibility:

Kindergarten - Your child is eligible for Kindergarten in the fall if your child is five years old, or will be five on or before September 1, 2021.

Transitional Kindergarten - Your child is eligible for Transitional Kindergarten in the fall if your child will be five between September 2 and December 2, 2021.

Enrollment:

Priority enrollment for CCUSD residents is from 2/1/21-3/5/21. Late enrollment begins April 12th. CCUSD residents who wait until the late enrollment period to enroll are not guaranteed placement at their home school if space is not available. If a home school is at capacity, the student will be assigned to another CCUSD elementary school. If you are a CCUSD resident, click here for enrollment information.

Notes:

• If your child is currently enrolled in OCD Preschool AND you are a CCUSD resident AND you want your child to attend CCUSD TK or Kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year, you must enroll your child in CCUSD. OCD enrollment does NOT automatically become TK/Kindergarten enrollment.

• If your child is currently attending TK in CCUSD, you do not need to reenroll in kindergarten.

• All current TK students who are CCUSD residents will automatically be placed in Kindergarten at their home school.

• Current TK students wishing to attend a Dual Language for Kindergarten-Grade 5 must apply to the Dual Language Program.
  

• TK students who are CCUSD residents and wish to attend Kindergarten at a school other than their home school must apply for an Intradistrict Permit.

• Click here for the Dual Language Program Application. Dual Language Applications for Kindergarten are only accepted February 10- March 10.

• Click here for the Intradistrict Permit Application. An Intradistrict Permit is required for anyone residing within CCUSD boundaries wishing to attend a school other than their home school. Intradistrict Permit Applications are only accepted February 10-March 10.

More than ever, learning how to code is a crucial part of understanding how the world works, no matter what you do or where you’re from. Not only is coding a useful skill to develop, but the employment of computer and information research scientists is projected to grow 15 percent by 2029.

Codivate is a completely student-run nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids develop their computational thinking skills and teaching them how to create practical programs with code.

All too often, students turn to traditional coding programs that place emphasis on the nitty-gritty language-specific details of it all. Codivate uses the dynamic combination of hands-on activities and a carefully curated curriculum to make learning coding as fun as it can be, as well as tutors who are just as excited to teach as students are to learn.

Spring Courses:

-Introduction to Programming in Scratch
-Introduction to Programming in Python

Students and tutors can sign up through our website: ca.codivate.org. Registration is currently open and closes on February 17th, while classes begin on February 24th.
