Rāmere Friday 3rd June Pipiri 2022 (T2: Week 5 of 10)
Our Tumuaki / Principal
- LMV Cross Country: What a great day we had on Tuesday for the Lower Mataura Valley Zone Cross Country. We love watching our children be active and involved. Well done to the children for all their efforts on the day. There was a raft of excellent results for Edendale athletes earned from their hard work in training as preparation for the event.
- Queen's Birthday: Monday is Queen's Birthday and as such is a public holiday. We will see all the children again on Tuesday.
- Alert Messaging: On Wednesday afternoon things here at school went a bit belly up in places. The Ministry of Education's Network for Learning (N4L) fell over in some sectors of the school including the office computer, office phone and photocopier. Then just after school the Brydone Bus ended up with a broken window and was running late. In both of these situations, we put a message across our Facebook Page and through our school app. We are so grateful for these means of communication which allow us to get the message directly to you. With winter now upon us, these systems are used when early morning road conditions are not favourable for driving, mainly due to snow. Please, if you have not already, follow us on Facebook (Edendale Primary School - Southland) and download our school app from SchoolAppsNZ and then, once in, search for Edendale PS Southland.
Thank You - Team Edendale
- LMV Zone Cross Country Helpers: Thanks to staff and parents for your assistance to make this day a success. Thanks to Laura McVicar and Andrea Russell in the office for sorting our in-school arrangements around name tags, certificates and buses. Thanks to Active Southland for the finish line, cones and tables. Thanks to Young Quinn Raceway (Wyndham Racecourse) for the grounds and Brendan Duffy and Bathan Muir for their help with the hay bales and finish line. Thanks to the Menzies students for being our lead runners and showing our children where to run.
Matariki 2022
Schools are coming together to perform in what is a full and exciting programme of performances including kapa haka groups and school bands.
Entry to the event is free.
Food vendors are booked and will be positioned to create a 'food hall' experience for people who wish to purchase a wide variety of refreshments.
At the conclusion of the event, there will be a professional fireworks display.
Come along and be part of the celebration.

Our Team for this Week - Team Tui
Talofa from Team Tui!
Week 5 already! The term has been jam-packed already with science, Sports Activator, Elgregoe, Kamahi Reserve and the LMV Zone Cross Country with more to come.
Like the rest of the school Sue Galloway has been the highlight of the term so far. I was impressed with the engagement of the children and their super thinking and questioning. Some comments of the day:
- “This is science!”
- “I love science!”
- “Can we have science everyday”
For DRIVE Inquiry we have been busy researching how different types of vehicles move and we are well on our way making our posters telling you how they move and work.
Our PR1ME Maths is ticking along nicely, with most of us learning about part- whole bar models and comparison bar models too. We are really liking the multiplication wheel where the boys and girls compete against one another to complete the multiplication wheel first, it does get very competitive.
We are all making great progress with our reading and writing skills. We will be focusing our writing on speeches now which links into our new DRIVE topic about “ What do I want to be when I grow up”.
Mrs Shepherd has also been busy with teaching us about measurement to do with mass and capacity as well as colours for Māori. Test us at home on our colours, see how well we have been listening.
In May we farewelled our dear friend Bayden, we will miss his friendship and wish him all the best at Riversdale School.
We are looking forward to the second half of the term to learn about Michel Tuffery, a New Zealand artist who explores the themes of Māori Pasifika in a woodcut font, lase-cut Matariki Star and Te Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa series. This will link in great with the celebration of Matariki coming up.
We can’t wait to see you all in Week 8 at report interviews.
Have an awesome and safe long weekend!
Miss Caci Mineur and Team Tui 😊

Principal's Values Award
This week the Principal/Tumuaki would like to acknowledge Jake Wigchers Van Boheemen for being a strong contributor, living out our school values every day.
Most Valuable Pupil: Team Tui
Simone Cupido is Team Tui’s MVP for our school value of Haepapa - Responsibility.
Simone comes in every morning with a beautiful, big smile and a fantastic positive attitude. She is a polite, friendly, and helpful member of our team and a caring friend to all.
Simone shows responsibility by making sure she gets her work finished within the time frame and puts 100% effort into all her work. She is an engaged learner by listening actively to instructions or discussions and being confident to contribute her own ideas.
Simone knows our class routines very well and completes her job to a high standard. She never complains and nothing is too big or small.
Simone, you are a delight to have in Team Tui with your enthusiastic bubbly personality.
Keep shining bright superstar!
Most Valuable Pupil: Team Kea
Bonnie McCauley is Team Kea’s MVP this week. Bonnie is a polite young lady who shows our school value of Haepapa - Responsibility.
Bonnie walks into school with a happy smile and gets herself organised for the day. She is a very kind class member who gets along with everyone. She makes new children feel welcome and plays fairly and sensibly with others.
It has been lovely watching Bonnie’s confidence grow more and more. Bonnie is always ready with the right equipment and focuses on her learning from start to finish. She is keen to learn and completes her work to a high standard.
I can trust Bonnie to make great learning and behaviour choices throughout the day. She has been a great buddy and role model to the children new to our school.
Bonnie is a very kind friend who treats others the way she would want to be treated. She notices when someone needs a friend or a helping hand and often goes to support them.
You have had a fantastic start to your learning journey, Bonnie. You are a valued member of our class. I look forward to seeing all the achievements you make here at Edendale Primary School.
Keep being you!
Writer of the Week - Emma Penney (Team Tui)
If I had to design a car for the future this would be how it’s going to work.
My car for the future would be a self–driving car that can float! To make it float you must go to the back of the car, plug the plug into the outlet and flip the switch.
The wheels will glow green and push the air down making the car go up. If you are a passenger, you can just relax and watch any channel on the TV. If you are the driver there are ways to work your car, you can just drive it or turn it on self-drive mode.
Now, this car is paintable, but I recommend black because it has LED lights that you can change to any colour, even rainbow!
