Dear Families,
September is off to a great start for our students and teachers. Our dedicated educators are diligently working to establish routines that provide structure and consistency and are creating a rich environment for effective learning. It's heartwarming to see our students' eager faces, brimming with excitement and curiosity, as they embark on this new educational journey, ready to embrace the joy of learning. Our staff just completed the first full professional development day of the school year today. We came together as a district to learn from experts in the field who helped us add best practices to our toolboxes.
District-Wide Open House Events: As a district, we always look forward to our Open House nights. These events allow us to connect with you, our valued partners in education, and for you to meet the dedicated teachers and staff who are committed to your child's success. For those of you who have children at the Freeman-Kennedy School, we hope that you enjoyed meeting your child’s teacher and having the opportunity to learn more about the curriculum, special subjects, and classroom procedures. If you have a child or children at H. Olive Day, we look forward to seeing you this Thursday.
Updated Family Handbook Section: The Instructional Support Section of the Family Handbook has been recently updated to better reflect the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) model. MTSS is an evidence-based framework that promotes school-wide early intervention and tailored support to meet the unique needs of each student. The Student Support Section of the Family Handbook provides information about our approach to supporting your child's academic growth and success. If you have any questions or require further clarification about the information contained in the updated section of the Family Handbook, please do not hesitate to contact our district curriculum office. We are here to provide the support and assistance you need to ensure your child's educational journey is a positive and enriching one.
Introducing the Freeman Kennedy and H. Olive Day School Newsletters: We are excited to announce that Freeman Kennedy and H. Olive Day will be sending out a monthly newsletter to their families. This will allow each of the schools to share news and updates that are building specific. The FK and HOD newsletters will be sent out via ConnectEd the first Wednesday of each month. In our continued efforts to streamline communications, the district newsletter, Wednesday’s Words, will be sent out every third Wednesday of the month. We hope this shift will allow you to stay informed with district and school updates.
First Wednesday of the month - school newsletters will be sent out
Third Wednesday of the month - district newsletter will be sent out
We are eagerly anticipating an outstanding school year filled with learning, growth, and meaningful experiences for every student within our district and are looking forward to an exciting year ahead.
Sincerely,
Victoria M. Saldana
Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
Reminder from the health office:
As a reminder from the health office, COVID is still spreading in the community. If your student is experiencing symptoms please keep them home and test them when they have symptoms. If your student tests positive for covid please contact your child's health office so that they are aware and can go over dates for your child to be able to return to school. Students who test positive must remain out of school until day 6 from the start of symptoms or positive test date and they must mask through day 10. In order to come back to school symptoms should be improving and your child must remain fever free without medication for 24 hours. If you have any questions please contact your child’s health office.
