Faith Integration
Jesus fasts for 40 days in the desert and is tempted by the devil. Matthew 4:1-11
In the narrative of Jesus’ temptation in the desert, we encounter profound connections with the Old Testament, particularly the story of the Israelites. Just as the Israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years in Exodus, Jesus undergoes a 40-day period of testing in the wilderness. Similar to the temptations faced by the Israelites, Jesus is also confronted with trials.
Each temptation provides us with insights into the nature of both God and humanity. Jesus’ steadfast refusal of these temptations demonstrates his unwavering commitment to not test God. Anchored in the Word and authority of Scripture, Jesus firmly rebukes the devil, relying completely on God’s protection and fidelity.
As we embark on our Lenten journey, the readings on Sundays urge us to emulate Jesus’ confidence in the face of temptation: relying solely on God’s Word, trusting in His promise of safeguarding, and recognizing His exclusive sovereignty.

😄Hello from Mrs. Oikonen!
Welcome back! I hope you had an awesome Family Day weekend and made time to enjoy the gift of our families. We had a wonderful Valentine's Day Party last week. The students were in breakout rooms with an assigned leader. Together, as a group, they decided which activities to complete from a Valentine's Day google slide presentation. Fun was had by all!
Thank you to those families that joined our Virtual Ash Wednesday Mass. As a SILC elementary family, the season of Lent calls us to prayer, fasting and almsgiving. What a wonderful opportunity to pray together.
This week we have a virtual presentation called :Sharks in the Park". We will be exploring by the seat of our pants at 11:00am and this will be for all grades.
Just a reminder to sign up for an individual meet if you haven't already.
Here is what we are going to be doing this week. February Calendar
Elementary Valentines Virtual Party
Here are some pictures from our Valentine's virtual party. Students were put in breakout rooms with assigned leaders. Leaders were given a Valentine's Day google slide presentation with games, stories, movement breaks and guided drawings. Together, they had to decide what they wanted to do.
Welcome Miss. McIntosh. Here is a little bit about her...
This will be my first semester at SILC, as I came from teaching in Spruce Grove! I actually have 2 degrees technically, achieving a bachelor of Science degree from MacEwan University in June of 2021. I will be teaching:
- Math 7
- Science 8
- Health 7/8/9
- Chesterton Health 9
- CALM 20
Outside of the classroom, I have a lot of hobbies I partake in. I really enjoy gardening in the summer. I have a nice garden in my backyard where I grow a ton of things, especially tomatoes! I also enjoy going on hikes. I did the Crypt Lake Hike in Waterton a few years ago and it was super cool! I enjoy travelling as well. Just in the past few years, I’ve gone to Banff, Vancouver, Montreal, Mexico twice, Las Vegas, and Houston! This coming summer I will be going to Italy and a few other countries in Europe to see family, and I’ll be ending the trip off by seeing Taylor Swift in Austria ;)
Systematic Wellness
Engaging in random acts of kindness (happening this month!) is a profound witness of our Catholic faith, enabling us to influence others in a positive manner. Through authentic displays of love, compassion, and generosity, we not only touch the hearts of those we encounter but also spark curiosity and unveil the authentic essence of Christianity to the world.
