Greetings to our Barrett Families!

The end of the school year is fast-approaching, and the month of May is filled with many activities. We are excited to host the different activities that will bring our parents on campus. Please check the activities below.

From May 1 to May 5, we will be recognizing our teachers and staff for Staff Appreciation. Our staff is truly dedicated to help our students achieve their academic goals. We are so thankful for their professionalism and commitment to student success. They are an amazing group of educators.

We are also very proud of the work and progress our students have made throughout the year. I acknowledge that we couldn't have done this work without the support of our parents. Our parents are an essential part of our team. Parents, we appreciate all the help you have given us, and we look forward to continuing to work together.

In April and May, third, fourth, and fifth grade students will participate in STAAR Testing.

The STAAR test allows students to demonstrate their learning during this school year. It is very important that students are in attendance at school as much as possible as teacher's will be reviewing important skills in preparation for these exams.

Please note: In order to ensure a secure testing environment, during state testing days, we will not have any visitors in the building.

Each grade level will be hosting their End-Of-Year Award Ceremonies on their designated date and time. The ceremonies will be held in the cafeteria. Teachers will be sending parents notifications to students who will be recognized at the award ceremony.

The End of the Year Party will be held after the award ceremonies in the classrooms. Parents are welcome to attend. Make sure you visit the front office to check in through Raptor. To ensure the safety of all our students, younger siblings will not be allowed to attend classroom parties. Please plan accordingly. We appreciate your collaboration.

This semester, our campus has established a reward system for our students. Students are rewarded for positive behavior with ROAR cash. Our last Roar Store is scheduled on Monday, May 15.

Fifth grade will be attending a fieldtrip to Moody Gardens on May 16, 2023. The students and teachers will be leaving the school promptly at 8:30 a.m. and returning around 1:30 p.m.

For more information regarding the fieldtrip, contact your child's teacher directly.

Our campus will host our annual field days on May 17 and May 18. Please see below for the dates and times designated to each grade level.

If you would like to serve as a chaperone, please contact Coach Helburg. We need our parents to make sure this event is successful. There are different times available to chaperone. Remember, chaperones do need to have their background check and volunteer training completed.

Parents can attend with their grade level on their designated time. In order to make this an easier check-in process, you may pre-check your IDs staring on April 15 for this event.

A special thank you to Coach Helburg for organizing this event! You rock!

Progress Reports for the 4th nine weeks are available through Skyward. Please log into Skyward to monitor your student's grades. Remember, you are able to set up text notifications on Skyward to help with this process.

Progress Reports will be posted on 5/9 through Skyward.

Report cards will be posted the first week of June through Skyward.

If you are interested in participating as a chaperone on fieldtrips, it is important to adhere to district policy.

Per district policy, all chaperones must have completed 1) the criminal background check and the 2) district parent volunteer training session, to be eligible to participate.

Please check the district communication for upcoming trainings.

Students will be released early on both May 24 and 25 at 12:20 pm. May 25 is the last instructional day.

Invitations for Summer School will be distributed by mid-May. Summer school will be held at Barrett Elementary from June 5 to June 30. Mrs. Kellie Hall will be serving as the Summer School Principal.

More specific details regarding the different programs, dates, and times for summer school will be shared soon with the parents of the students who are invited. Please stay tuned.
