Everyone loves a parade, and the Elizabethton CIty Schools in conjunction with the City of Elizabethton will be hosting the Elizabethton Parade of Champions at 6:30 pm on Saturday evening Nov. 18 featuring Elizabethton native and World Series Champ Texas Ranger outfielder Evan Carter and the Division II Tennessee State Champion Betsy Band.

The parade will feature floats and participants from schools within the school system along with Carter, his wife Kaylen, and their family.

* Congratulations to the following students for their Academic Recognition for Hannah McCoy & Hudson Smith.

Both of them were recognized at the ECS October regular scheduled board meeting.

Hannah McCoy attended the Governor’s School for Science and Engineering and American Legion Auxiliary Volunteer Girls State.

Hudson Smith attended the Governor’s School for Technological Innovation and Business Leadership Technology.

Learning is so much fun!! After a week of learning about recycling, Mrs. Cassie’s Pre-K class reused items to create a robot, cat, dinosaur, and rocket ship!

Ms. Rhonda’s PreK class just finished a study of the environment and how to take care of it. They discussed ways of recycling , and composting…and finished their study by learning how worms use compost materials to help make make plants, trees, and flowers grow.

The worm compost was provided by Ms. Johnson’s 4th grade class.

Ms. Ashley and Ms. Cassie’s classes had their field trip to the Elizabethton Fire Station. They then visited the park and had a picnic lunch. #welc #wandellearlycenter

Last month, Ms. Susan and Ms. Rhonda’s classes visited Elizabethton Fire station to continue learning about fire prevention and safety during Fire Prevention Month. They then visited the park and had a picnic lunch. It was a fun day in Pre-K.

Mrs. Malone’s 5th grade classes practiced decimal place value with base ten blocks. Some even presented their answers on the document camera!

Brody Hurley brought treats and spoke about his own experience with Microtia. The students loved his presentation, and the cookies were a sweet bonus!

The ESE 5th grade went to Niswonger Performing Arts Center to see the Young People’s Orchestra. They also had lunch in the food court at the mall! It was a great day!

To give back to our community, K Kids members are holding a food drive. Please consider sending canned goods with your student to donate to this drive. Thank you!

Students in Ms. Amy’s class used math skills and everyday objects to build a house for their “pet.” They look pretty cozy!

The 4th and 5th graders did a fantastic job in the patriotic musical led by Ms. Whitehead! Both the day and evening performances showcased the students and all of their practice. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our veterans. Great job!

Students spent a few fun-filled weeks skating in Ms. O’Quinn’s PE classes recently. Some may start with a little reluctance, but by the end of the unit, they can all say they developed a new skill!

I will be sharing teacher ewallets this week so you can add funds for the teacher to shop their wishlist!

This is an excellent way for kids to learn to manage money and feel like independent shoppers without the stress of keeping up with cash all week!

Mrs. Righter's third graders have been learning about natural hazards and their impact on humans and the environment. Last week, they designed, built, and tested levees to see if they could withstand a flood.

West Side celebrated Evan Carter with a baseball-themed week for the World Series.

The final payment for the 8th-grade trip to Washington D.C. is due tomorrow, November 15.

Don't forgot to bring a few dollars for your donuts and bottled water at the in-school basketball game on Friday! All proceeds go to helping FBLA get to their state competition in April!

Builder's Club members helped collect food from all classrooms on Friday to load onto the ARM Food Pantry truck. We were able to collect just under 2,000 items thanks to the generous donations of our TAD students, parents, staff, and community! Thank you for helping us make this a successful project. Shoutout to our custodian, Penny, for always helping us with this project!

Some of our Builder's Club members volunteered their Saturday morning to help our sponsoring club, Kiwanis Club of Elizabethton, with their annual pancake breakfast. They did such a great job in helping with this event.

Congratulations to Loren Watson for placing second in the 22nd Annual Young Playwrights Festival at Barter Theatre! There were 366 play submissions and over 500 students participated (individually or 2-3 writing partners) from eleven different schools in Virginia and Tennessee. This is the second consecutive year that Loren has placed in the top eight. The Advanced Creative Writing class attended the Barter Playwright Festival to see the Barter Players perform the top eight student plays. Every student who submitted a play received feedback from a Barter professional. In addition to having her play performed on stage, Loren received a trophy and a $300 cash prize. And congratulations to Kiera Wolfe for being recognized as a semi-finalist (top 20) as well as all who participated!

Congratulations to Callie Austin, our October Student Changemaker of the Month! “Hello I'm Callie Austin! I am a member of SGA, an NHS treasurer and secretary, a Chamber Youth Ambassador, and a Student Ambassador at EHS. Outside of the school environment, I am a member of Believers Church and have worked at Chick-fil-a for a little over a year. After high school, I plan to continue my education with a degree in Business Communications. I am so grateful for all the staff at EHS and to graduate with all my best friends!” Callie’s teacher nominator wrote this about her, “Callie is a breath of fresh air in the form of a human. She is always a delight to be around and is able to bring joy to those in her presence.”

EHS will once again be hosting TuffyCon this year on November 18th from 10am-2pm. This is a free event for the entire community that celebrates all things pop culture. There will be vendors, games, cosplay, and more!

2023 State Champions

Congratulations to Evan Carter on his remarkable journey from EHS baseball to the Texas Rangers and, ultimately, winning the World Series. Making an MLB debut and contributing significantly to the team's success in the World Series is an incredible achievement. It's always inspiring to see talented EHS Alumni reach such heights in their careers. Best wishes to Evan Carter for continued success in his baseball career with the Texas Rangers!

The Boys finished 1st and the Girls finished 3rd at the Regional Tournament. Both teams qualify for State! Riley Vernon was the Individual Champion, which is the 1st time a Cyclone individually won the Region 1 meet since Josh Jaynes won it back in 2005.

The EHS Volleyball Banquet was held last week for the 2023 Season. The following awards were given for MVP- Freshman Team- Jasy Shell, JV Team- Zyleigh Bates, & Varsity Gracie Kirsch. The Offensive Player of the Year was Krisalyn Elliott. The Defensive Player of the Year was Bailee VanHuss. Congratulations to all players for a great season.
