NorthStar Lights
North Syracuse Central School District's weekly e-news
Issue #66 | May 27, 2022
Hello North Syracuse Central School District Parents, Guardians, Teachers and Staff,
With today being a holiday for students and staff we weren't sure if we would be sending a message this week. With all of the events that have happened lately though, I didn't want to go into a break without sending a message to families. This year, as we head into the Memorial Day Holiday weekend, the idea of remembering those we’ve lost, seems especially significant. It has been a difficult time for our country and our world and we move into the last weeks of our school year in desperate need of a break.
Yesterday we held our Special Olympics Track and Field Events at Cicero-North Syracuse High School and I have to say...the event was exactly what I needed to put me in the right, POSITIVE mindset to go into a long weekend.
Despite the difficult things that are going on around us, our NSCSD community came together for the event and gave our students an amazing day. This is what it is all about. As a community, we are here for all our students. I am incredibly blessed that our District has hosted this event for so many years. This is a tremendous undertaking but it is worth the effort. I want to commend every staff person, every student/parent/community volunteer, every board member and every participant for their work in making our Special Olympics happen.
I spoke with so many parents, teachers and students who were grateful for the event and I appreciate each and every piece of feedback. With that said, I want to tell you about a chance moment and a conversation I overheard that cemented my certainty that the event is worth every effort. I watched several heats of students running the 50-yard dash. After a particular race where a young boy had a significant lead and subsequently won the race, I saw him walking away, beaming with joy and proudly looking down at the blue ribbon pinned to his shirt. It made me smile to see the pride on his face but what literally took my breath away was the moment when his teacher put her hand on her back and said to him, "See buddy, I told you you could do it."
I’m proud to call myself a NorthStar and I’m proud of all of my fellow Stars...in this District AND in those all around us. Please take time this weekend to remember those we’ve lost and to appreciate all of those still with us. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Daniel D. Bowles, Superintendent of Schools

C-NS Celebrates the Top 10% of the Class of 2022
On Tuesday, May 24, the top ten percent of students in the Cicero-North Syracuse Class of 2022 was recognized at a special ceremony. The students were treated to a celebratory breakfast in the school’s library and were presented with certificates by Executive Principal Jamie Sullivan in front of their peers. North Syracuse Central School District’s Superintendent of Schools took time to speak to the group and praise them for their efforts over the years, especially in light of the disruptions caused by the pandemic. Congratulations to these outstanding scholars!

Cupcake Wars at C-NS
Ashley D'Imperio, a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at Cicero-North Syracuse High School, shared pictures from a recent project done by students in her Hospitality and Pastry Arts class. The students completed their own version of Cupcake Wars as part of their class.
Ashley said, “We had previously discussed recipe reading, and different cake decorating methods, and we even practiced piping skills using instant mashed potatoes.”
