BOYNTON ELEMENTARY
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
FEBRUARY…THE MONTH TO CELEBRATE LOVE! The year is over half way through, and we are making great progress toward our goals for our students this year. I have been at Boynton for 29 years, and I am still completely amazed at the love our school has! Boynton is a special place. There are no other schools that compare to us. We have the most loving students, staff, and parents. Everyone works together as a team to make incredible things happen for our students every day. I have heard many visitors who have never been at the school before comment that when they walk through our doors they can sense something different. That difference is love! We love our students, we love our parents, and we love our entire staff. Our parents and business partners are so supportive, and we are thankful for that. I am thankful for the amount of love and dedication our entire staff has shown this school year. Their love shines through each day they come to school early and stay late to ensure our students are well taken care of and their needs are being met. Thank you for loving our students!
I want to thank everyone for their support during the month of January. Our Strawberry Fundraiser was a huge success. We will send out a text message letting parents know when the strawberries arrive and when to pick up your order. I would also like us to continue to show our love by supporting our APEX Fun Run Fundraiser to help raise money for our intervention programs, instructional supplies, and technology. Our school goal is to raise $30,000 again. This fundraiser has been crutial to providing for our students. I am confident we can reach this goal.
Congratulations to our Tech Team, Robotics Team, and Spelling Bee Winners! We are so proud of your hard work and advancements to the county, regional, and state competitions. These students did an excellent job displaying their many talents and representing our school. Way to Go!

THE COUNSELOR'S CORNER
This 9 weeks Boynton is focusing on our Code of Conduct Rule #3 "I will Always Be Respectful." Respect is treating someone how you and they want to be treated. It is caring about the thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and rights of others. Respect involves being responsible, sincere, polite, and considerate.
This month take the time to discuss with your child what respect looks like, sounds like, and feels like. Together we can prepare them to be their very best!
How do you respect … someone’s time?
How do you respect … people’s differences?
How do you respect … personal space?
How do you respect … your school/teacher/classmates?
How do you respect … people’s feelings?
How do you respect … yourself?

DATA - An integral part of the PBIS program is to collect and analyze behavioral data. The PBIS team reviews the data monthly and identifies target behaviors for the Classroom and School Wide Morning Meetings. Data is shared with teachers so they can present lessons and examples of the appropriate behavior throughout the day.
The PBIS team would also like to share data with you, the parents, so that you can reinforce the target behavior at home and in the community. In December, the data indicated an increase in Disrespectful Behaviors in the classroom, particularly on Mondays.
Thank you in advance for taking the opportunity to discuss your expectations for being respectful with your child.

MEDIA NEWS
January has been a month brimming with joy. We have enjoyed multiple weather days, and students finished up their New Year or grade-level goals. They also started working on math activities across all grade levels. We will continue to work on math skills in February as well as celebrating Black History Month. In the 3rd-5th grades, students are enhancing their math fluency through creative endeavors such as coloring Star Wars sheets and practicing cursive writing. Meanwhile, the lower grades are immersed in dynamic math centers. Kindergarten and 1st grade are delving into the world of teen numbers, while 2nd graders are exploring place value, addition, and subtraction through interactive matching centers and games like War with playing cards and Uno cards.

A huge thank you to our friends at TVA for providing our students with some awesome resources to learn about energy! Our 4th and 5th graders have been learning about the origins of the TVA and how it helped shape the Tennessee Valley region. Younger grades have been exploring topics such as: How do machines help us do work?, Why do rivers have current?, and Why is there sand at the beach?
I also want to congratulate the six students who competed in the Regional Technology Competition: Asher Hancock (animation), Landon Lyons and Max Huerta-Calderon (internet application), Sawyer Dube (audio production), and our two winners who will head to the State competition Cooper Hodge and Cam Peters (video production). Way to go Boynton!!

NOTES FROM THE NURSE
As many of you know already, winter is identified as the "cold season", and February is known as the month when flu activity peaks. Please remember to keep your child/children home if they are sick. Always go by how your child is acting; if they are acting sick, keeping them home to keep an eye on them may be a good idea.
Below are some symptoms that mean your child should stay home:
1. Fever -Your child should be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications before returning to school.
2. Vomiting or diarrhea - Your child should be without vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
3. Bad Pain - Pain is always something you want to keep an eye on, & possibly contact your child's doctor.
4. Bad cough, or anything that affects your child's breathing -A really bad cough may require a call/visit to the doctor.
If you have any questions, or concerns please call me at 706-866-1521.
