Meadowlark Milers Running Club 2024
Promoting Self-Esteem, Good Character, Fitness, & Community!
Dear Families,
The month of February is American Heart Awareness Month because heart disease is the leading cause of death among men and women in the United States. Heart disease can often be prevented by eating right and exercising. In an effort to fight against heart disease and promote healthy living Meadowlark will be starting up the 2024 Milers Club. It is important for kids to try and get 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity(MVPA) a day. Reaching that 60 minutes a day is getting increasingly harder due to the increase of time spent in front of a screen!
The mission of the Meadowlark Milers Club is not only to provide students with an opportunity to get their 60 minutes of MVPA, it also helps students to be ready for learning in the classroom, build self-esteem, and feel a sense of connection within our school. Students will try to reach their grade level goals during the season. The miles that will count towards this goal are the miles that they earn during Milers Club, PE, Recess, Local Runs that you have completed during the 23-24 school year, Meadowlark Virtual Run Opportunities, and the end of the year Family Fun Run. Students will run/walk outside when the weather permits, and if the weather is bad we will run/walk inside the school. Students will earn mileage tokens when they reach their short-term goals, and if they reach their final goal for the season they will receive a medal at the end of the year!
Milers Club will be on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings from 8:00 until school starts beginning on Tuesday, February 27th. Drop off is on the East side gym door where the Car Loop is. The gym door will not open until 8:00 am. The last morning Milers Club will be Thursday, May 2nd. We will have an after school Family Fun Run on Friday, May 3rd (tentative)
It is free to join Milers Club, however, we will be selling Milers t-shirts for $16 each. If you would like to purchase one for your student or other family members please make checks payable to Alicia Moss or Venmo @mossalicia. These shirts will have the same logo as last year, but a different color of shirt. If you are interested in signing up please complete the form below for each student. If you have any questions please email Mrs. Crusinberry at crusinbt@usd385.org. We are looking forward to a fun season!!!
Meadowlark Elementary Skating
Beginning on Monday, March 18th, Meadowlark Elementary Physical Education classes will be participating in an in-house skating program at school. The skates will be delivered directly to the school. Due to insurance purposes, we will be exclusively using Carousel’s skates.
The skating unit is being implemented because of its emphasis as a “Lifetime Activity”. Skating provides a variety of benefits, which include balance, coordination, motor skills, and a top-rated cardio-respiratory workout. Students will also learn basic skating skills such as starting, stopping, forward skating, backward skating, cornering, and a number of safety tips for being a smart skater.
Wrist guards will be provided for each student during the program. Students are strongly encouraged to bring helmets, elbow pads, and/or knee pads for extra safety precautions.
The fee for this unit will be $8.00 per student. The fee includes delivery and pickup of the equipment as well as use of the skates for 5 days of skating during their P.E. class. Checks should be made payable to Meadowlark Elementary.
Click on the Permission Slip link below and return with the fee NO LATER than Monday,
March 5th.
If you have any questions regarding the skating unit please contact Traci Crusinberry, at
