It's hard to believe we are in November already! Our teachers and students are getting in to a good routine at school. We have been practicing expectations in various parts of the school and reteaching behaviors. Please remind your child to:

• show respect
• act safely
• accept responsibility

November is a month of gratitude and I am so very grateful for our school community. The staff, students and families at Henry Ford Elementary make it a caring and welcoming school!

With more than half of our students riding the bus to and from school, it is important that we review the bus expectations. Students are expected to:

• stay seated when the bus is in motion
• keep all food and drinks in their backpacks
• use respectful language
• use appropriate voice level

If there is a problem on the bus, students have been told to either report them to the bus driver or to one of our staff members.

Please review expectations with your child at home. It is a privilege to ride the bus and if students are not following expectations, they will lose that privilege.

Remember that EVERY Tuesday is an early release day. Students are dismissed at 2:25pm Please be mindful of picking up your child on time.

Thank you to our parents who have joined PTO. Our PTO plays an important role in how our school functions. PTO helps to support our teachers and students all year long! If you have not joined PTO, don't worry, you can still come by the office to join.

This year, we will combine PTO & Parent Education Meetings. We will be using this time to discuss strategies to help with reading, writing, and math. We will also be bringing in special guests to discuss other topics such has heath & nutrition and social media.

Our next PTO meeting will be 12/6/23.

We know that the weather in Michigan can be unpredictable. It's important that your child dress appropriately for the weather. Coats, hats, and gloves are needed daily once the temperature dips. Students have 2 classroom recesses as well as lunch recesses, if weather permits. We follow district protocol when determining when students stay indoors for recesses. If the temperature, with the wind chill, is below 20 degrees, students will remain indoors.

We are also looking at updating our dismissal procedures for the upcoming winter weather. More details are coming!

Henry Ford Elementary is participating in the district wide Battle Against Hunger. Students will be collecting non-perishable items to donate through Zaman International to those less fortunate. Teachers will be collecting items in their classrooms. The classroom that collects the most items will have a reward party. Items will be collected from November 13-November 17.

Communication between school and home is an important way to build understanding and trust. It is used so that we can work together to support your child both emotionally and academically. Our staff can be reached during school hours through email, Class Dojo, or by message through the office.

With that being said, our teachers are doing what they do best--TEACHING YOUR CHILDREN! We ask that our teachers not be on their phones during instructional time. It is important that they are engaged in the classroom with your student so that they can meet their individual needs. Our staff has the professional duty to respond to all parent messages within 24 hours of receiving them; staff is not required to reply over the weekend.

If you have an urgent message, feel free to call the office at 313-827-4700. We also ask that if your child is absent, you contact the office instead of the classroom teacher.
