Prayer
Almighty and eternal God, we ask Your protection against destroying fire. Fire is so very necessary for our existence, and yet, when it gets out of control, it can be more damaging than anything else. Keep our homes and buildings and woods and fields safe from this scourge. Help us always to be most careful in our use of it. Help us especially in the winter time when need and use it most. For then, if our homes are destroyed by fire, we suffer more than ever.
We pray for all those people who have lost their homes in the recent fires in California. May God give them strength to rebuild their lives. Bless the loved ones of those who lost their lives in the fires. May they Rest in Peace.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Confirmation 2017
We had a wonderful ConfIrmation last Saturday with Bishop Justice celebrating of the Mass. Thanks to Mr. Ceja for all the work he did in preparing the students to receive the sacrament.
Mission Mass
Our student council, Mr. Hartman, Mrs. Allen, and I attended the first Archdiocese Mission Mass at the cathedral on Friday, October 7th. Seven schools from the Archdiocese were represented.
Parish Festival
Thanks to all the families who participated in the parish festival. Thanks to Mrs. Rochelle Martinez who put so many hours into the preparation of the festival. It was great to see so many families attend and alumni return to attend the festival over the three days.
Classroom Instruction
Our classroom teachers are doing some phenomenal work with the students in all our classes. I enjoy visiting the rooms and seeing the students so engaged with their studies.
School Advisory Board News
At our last School Advisory Board meeting, the finance committee and the school board members have given their support to drawing a much tougher line on delinquent accounts. As of last Tuesday we had $21,000 in outstanding tuition and $7,000 in Extended Care delinquency. We have been trying to work with many families on tuition, but it has come to a point where the school is being ignored in its attempts at collection. A number of notifications went out to those families who owe money indicating to these families that all monies need to be paid by the end of the first quarter. I wish to thank all those families who are keeping up with tuition payments. We are running on a very tight budget this year, and we need to pay our staff and vendors on time.
Parent/Teacher Conferences November 7th -9th
Parent/Teacher Conference sign ups are currently open on SchoolSpeak. We need all families to sign up on SchoolSpeak by Friday, October 27th. School administration will not be reminding families if you have not signed up. We are asking that all members of the school community live out one of our SLEs by being Responsible Citizens.
All Saints and All Souls Masses
We will be celebrating All Saints Day on November 1st and All Souls Day on November 2nd with the school community attending 9am Mass. Students need to be in complete uniform on these days. All families are welcome to join us on these days.
School Family Mass
On Sunday, November 5th we have our School Family Mass at 9am in the church. We encourage all school families to join us at this Mass.
Great California Shake-Out
Staff and students participated in an earthquake drill this morning as part of the Great California Shake-Out. In today's scenario staff and students remained in the building and separated into family groups in the cafeteria and primary classrooms. Each month we practice emergency drills (earthquake, fire, and lock-down) at a variety of times and in different scenarios so that students will be comfortable in all situations that might occur. I hope that you practice at home as a family as well.
Letter from South San Francisco Unified School District
I received a very nice thank you letter from Superintendent Shawnterra Moore, Superintendent of the SSF Unified School District expressing gratitude for the donation from the All Souls Community to the Martin School families affected by the apartment fire in their school community. Please see attached the letter.
God Bless,
Vincent Riener

“Shadows of a thousand years rise again unseen, voices whisper in the trees, tonight is Halloween!”― Dexter Kozen
Children love the magical spookiness of Halloween: costumes, trick-or-treating, classroom parties, and parades. It can be an exciting time or, for some children, a scary time. What we don’t want is for Halloween to be a dangerous time. Parents should consider not just the safety of the candy that their children receive, but the safety of costumes as well. Pedestrian and traffic safety is also of the utmost importance. The American Academy of Pediatrics (https://www.aap.org/en-us/about-the-aap/aap-press-room/news-features-and-safety-tips/Pages/Halloween-Safety-Tips.aspx) and the National Safety Council (http://www.nsc.org/learn/safety-knowledge/Pages/halloween-safety.aspx) offer practical Halloween safety tips to help insure that this Halloween will be a fun-filled spook fest for your children. I hope you find them helpful.
All the best,
Miss J
