Curtis Chronicles
August 28, 2023
Welcome from Curtis Principal, Sonya Pitcock
Cougar families,
We are so proud of how great the kids are doing with getting back into school routines. The 8th graders jumped right back into all the expectations they knew from last year and are really helping lead our new 7th graders. The new 7th graders are doing AMAZING adjusting to middle school! Thank you for all you do at home to support them being successful at school!
Our lost and found is pretty full already with mostly lunch boxes and water bottles. If your child has misplaced either of those items, be sure to send them to the front office to check if it’s there.
As we are adjusting to the new dress code guidelines, we are seeing a few trends we want to bring to your attention. Students wearing legging shorts are struggling to keep them within the dress code as they move throughout the day. The shorts tend to scoot up as students move in and out of desks and up and down to get backpacks. We recommend not wearing those types of shorts unless they have some sort of elastic that will keep them in place. We are also seeing lots of students wearing oversized shirts where we cannot see their shorts at all. If students are wearing shorts, we need to be able to see them, so simply tucking in the shirt a little in front will do the trick. One last reminder any holes in short or pants must follow the guidelines in the dress code.
Students are expected to carry their regularly used school supplies with them daily. These items include notebook paper, pencils, pens, highlighters. Teachers will supply specific items such as scissors, rulers, markers as needed, but will not be able to supply notebook and writing utensils. Please make sure you help your students stay stocked with those things throughout the year. If you need any support with getting supplies for your kids, please feel free to reach out to any of our CMS counselors for assistance.
Lastly, a FRIENDLY reminder, if you are dropping students off after 8:15, you’ll need to drop them off in the front of the building so they can get to class on time. The tardy bell rings at 8:20 and students must be in class or they will be counted late to school.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Sonya Pitcock
Principal
