Principal's Message
Happy second week of school! Although today was only the ninth school day, with schedules in place and routines established, it feels like we're well into the school year. Students are engaged in learning and working hard, they're reading, writing, and learning math. And, they continue to focus on contributing to the building of positive classroom communities.
We had several firsts this week. With staggered start completed, we had full kindergarten classes here everyday. We practiced our first Fire Drill. We had our first Community assemblies: 3rd-5th grades on Thursday and K-2nd grades on Friday. We also became more efficient with our arrival and dismissal routines. Everyone is learning a lot and the school is abuzz with the energy of the new school year.
Your Voice Matters: We have many opportunities for parents and family members to get involved. One of these is Site Council, which is a team of parent and staff leaders who focus on school improvement. If you're interested in participating, please let us know.
As always, please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org. Go Dolphins!
Sincerely,
Teresa Alfaro - Principal
Peter McDougal - Assistant Principal

Ideas for Parents: Conversations With Your Student
After school each day, we encourage you to check in with your student to find out how it went. Some students are ready to talk right away, others may need a little time before they're ready. As a helpful guide, here are some questions you might consider, perhaps picking one or two each day.
- What made you smile today?
- What’s something new that you learned?
- What was something interesting that happened?
- Who is someone who helped you today?
- What are you most proud of today?
- What students did you spend time with today?
- Who did you sit with during lunch?
- What did you do during recess and who was with you?
- What did you learn during (math, reading, etc.)?
- What was the most difficult thing that happened today?
- If you could change one thing about today, what would it be?
- What’s something that you’re looking forward to getting to do tomorrow?
Our Playground will be Ready Next Week!
