Classroom Spotlight - Ms. Finn, PTP grades 1,2,3.

Students had a great time learning about Fall and different animals. Students made squirrels with acorns and a wonderful community member donated squirrel masks!

In this weeks Staff Chat we meet our Title l Counselor Mrs. Trybula! She is currently on maternity leave, but are so grateful she took the time to be interviewed!

1. I decided to become a school counselor because I wanted students to have a trusted adult in the school setting. As a school counselor, I always stress that students are not in trouble when they meet with me. My job is to be a student advocate and teach students a variety of skills.

Covington Winter Carnival

It is almost time for our annual Covington Winter Carnival! This event is one of our students favorites of the entire year and is run by our amazing PTO. We are still in the planning stages for the day's festivities. However, we need your help! Our Winter Carnival this year will be held on Wednesday, December 22nd (our final day before Winter Break).

District 123 Leaf Raking Event

Our District 123 Community Leaf Raking Event is this Saturday, November 13th. The event begins at 8:00 A.M. and all volunteers will be meeting at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School. This event is in place to assist our senior citizens of Oak Lawn and Hometown.

We would love to have some Covington families helping out on that day! If you're available, have a rake, and want to help out some of our fellow members of the community, please a moment to email me and we can get you on our volunteer list.

Feed 6 Event

Our 9th Annual District 123 Feed 6 Meal Packaging Event is coming up. The event will take place on Saturday, December 4th. Please refer to the Feed 6 Pledge Sheet for more information on the event, the times available to volunteer, and donation information.

SHIELD Testing

The SHIELD Illinois program is a quick, simple, and non-invasive COVID-19 screening test. Students that have opted-in to the program will provide a small amount of saliva that is tested at a professional lab. Results of the test are then provided to families and our school district within the days following. The program offers students the opportunity to reduce or waive quarantine requirements in the event of close contact with a positive case or if the student demonstrates symptoms. You can opt-in to the program at any time by accessing Online Forms in Skyward Family Access. Parking During Pick-Up/Drop-Off

Please refer to these reminders on expectations during Pick-Up and Drop-Off. These reminders are specifically in regards to parking during these times.

Double parking on 52nd Avenue (or any street around Covington) is never allowed
Parking or stopping on the school-side of the street on 52nd Avenue is never allowed
There are designated crossing areas on 52nd Avenue and should use them when crossing the street

These expectations are to ensure the safety of our students and families and are expectations of Covington Elementary School and Oak Lawn.
