May 2022 Newsletter
Happy May!
Dear Families, Staff and Community Members,
We are on the homestretch of the 2021-2022 school year. As we near the last six weeks of the school year, there are a variety of events and activities to look forward to.
The month of May begins with a weeklong celebration of our dynamic teaching staff. May 2nd-6th is Teacher Appreciation Week. Eatonville School District is fortunate to have 116 incredibly talented certificated teachers serving our 1,861 students. Additionally, we recognize our school nurses and food service employees the first two weeks of May. On May 6th, National School Lunch Hero Day, we recognize our food service staff for their efforts to keep our students well fed each day. Our nurses have devoted an extraordinary amount of time the last two years to their work. May 11th, National Nurse Appreciation Day is a great time to show gratitude.
We are pleased to announce the reinstatement of our long-held and missed tradition of Community Day on Friday, May 6th from 1:00-3:00pm. The program will be held in the large gym at Eatonville High School. There will be various vendors located in the front of the high school outdoors as well as in the commons and the small gym. We hope you join us in celebrating the 106th Annual Community Day, and we hope you enjoy the crowning of our 94th May Day Queen.
While end of the year event planning is in full swing, we are also starting to make plans for the next school year. Please visit our website for more information regarding enrollment. We are now accepting enrollment packets for all grade levels including Preschool and Kindergarten.
Thank you for your continued partnership. We could not do this work without you.
Wishing you and your family the very best,
Gary Neal
Superintendent

Daffodil Parade
Inspired by the movie Up, the Eatonville community is coming together with the hope that even though we may be divided in some ways, we can still come together to continue a valued tradition in our small town. We're finding common ground and creating with unlikely friends. And we're confident that with hope anything is possible.
The UP theme proved popular with the crowd. A huge shout out to Eatonville Lions member Ernie Wolf for taking his job as Mr. Fredrickson very seriously. He powered through all 4 parades with a smile on his face (when he wasn’t grimacing for the camera). We also want to acknowledge “Dug” (the sweet and well-behaved dog we borrowed from Annie Dattillo). He was perfection and a crowd favorite!
Thanks to all who helped make this happen: Everyone you see in these pix plus the Town of Eatonville, Eatonville Lions Club, EHS ASB, Arrow Lumber, Dogwood Garden Club, Krystal Benham, and many other private donors. Huge thanks also to EHS band and dance parents for the delicious hot meal and Ms. Rodrigues’s mom Monica for providing warm cover and a real bathroom at the end of the day (much appreciated).
We look forward to growing this tradition and gathering more community members for 2023 so stay tuned!

Highly Capable Program Highlight
April Highlight
Our first middle school session was heavily focused on our passion projects and making sure we were ready to jump right in. Remaining students presented their pitches, worked on final plans, and began putting in materials requests. We also did some lego building challenges in honor of Read Across America Day (Dr. Seuss Day) and joined Columbia Crest Middle Schoolers for their read in. Students were gifted donuts by CCA leadership students too!
Our second session we worked on passion projects, solving two minute mysteries, and even did a St. Patrick's Day themed STEM project to celebrate! Our last session students attended a field trip to Pierce College Ft. Steilacoom. They got to tour campus with students and attend a video presentation of our galaxy in the science dome there. Elementary students also celebrated St. Patrick's Day with some themed brain teasers, a leprechaun trap STEM project, and also had time to work on their passion projects.
The highlight for elementary this month was our second session, in which we attended a field trip to Pioneer Farm and the Native American Village. Students got to tour both parts of the facility and learn about how children lived in each type of community in the past. We are looking forward to a few more field trips and fun experiences before the year ends!
