Romig Information
January 18th, 2024
Good morning, Romig Middle School families.
Romig Middle School and the Anchorage School District Health Services Department were made aware this morning that a member of our Romig community is being tested for a suspected case of mumps.
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Out of an abundance of caution, the District is currently coordinating with our partners at the Municipality of Anchorage and the State Department of Health. The following safety protocols will be implemented:
We are following the regular bell schedule today.
All Romig field trips and after-school activities have been canceled for today.
The ASD Maintenance & Operations Department will be all hands on deck to disinfect the entire Romig facility and all Romig buses this afternoon.
Once we have more information, we will provide an update.
Families may learn more about mumps symptoms and protocols from the CDC website:
https://www.cdc.gov/mumps/about/index.html. If you suspect your student is displaying symptoms, the CDC recommends self-isolating and reaching out to your healthcare provider.
Your awareness allows us to ensure the safety of all of our students and staff.
We were all looking forward to today’s basketball game at West. Please know the decision to cancel this visit was not made lightly. I’d like to reiterate that this is a suspected case and our decision to pause extra curricular activities is a necessary step of caution.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
Kindest Regards,
Carrie Sumner
Principal
