Year 6 Debating Winners
The team of Noah Dalliston, Ethan Farquhar, Caoimhe Leslie-Ellis and Malia Walker (the timekeeper) argued the moot ‘Why school libraries are outdated and should be removed’ and won against Norfolk.
Ethan was best speaker putting together some strong points and ideas as to how town libraries can better serve us and librarians in schools better utilised to teach research skills etc.
Caoimhe was third best speaker with a great presence and awesome links of global impacts around book making, thus the centralisation of books in Town Libraries. Noah did a fantastic job summarising and rebutting with clarity and increased confidence. And of course Malia did a wonderful job timekeeping.
Thanks to Mrs Boyd who has got on board with debating, coaching the students along with Danise O’Sullivan who has some experience with debating and adjudicating.
Digital Safety
We utilise our REACH values in teaching all at IPS to "do the right thing at the right time for the right reason".
Sadly, we cannot control such content on the Internet, however, we all do undertake and apply control measures where possible.
Here at IPS, we utilise the services of Network 4 Learning, together with our ICT Technicians to provide technical support, advice and guidance with regard to firewall and security.
Again, sadly, in speaking with Network 4 Learning support, we learnt that events such as ours are not uncommon.
Over the past few weeks our e-learning team have been reviewing the many and varied procedures with regard to Digital Technology. These will be finalised on Thursday and all Staff and Students will be asked to sign the revised agreement.
Currently, our Cyber Safety agreement asks students to do the following:
- If I find anything mean or rude or things I know are not acceptable at our school on any ICT device I will:
- Not show others
- · Click on the ‘Hector Safety Button’ or turn off the screen and
- · Get a teacher straight away.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership while we all navigate the unknown world of the internet and all it brings.

Cross Country - Tuesday 27 August
We are looking forward to having a fun filled day. We would love your help, support and participation. Yes, we have the kindy kids coming to compete, an inflatable slide for participants and … wait for it… an adult’s fun race. So put your best foot or even both feet forward. You can dress up in the house colours and race (don’t worry the fun one is a team or a three legged race - for those of us a little more challenged by running). So get prepping and if you can lend a hand let us know at the office.

Safety Concerns/Near Misses on Crossings
There have been a number of problems on the Miro Street pedestrian crossing. The traffic and congestion are making it difficult for our young students to manage. We need parents to step up and support us with manning this morning 0830-0855 and afternoon 1455-1515, like our few lovely volunteers are doing now. HELP please. Contact the office to add your name to the roster assist with the safety of our children. Many hands make light work. We would like to not have students manning this in the near future as the traffic is increasing.

Healthy Snacks
Granola: an amazing cereal and snack. Super healthy, filling and fun for kids.
Eat with milk and fruit, yoghurt or add to lunchboxes as a snack. However you have it, it won’t last long!
· Makes approx 1kg. If you need less, just halve the ingredients
I used whole grain oats, but you can use regular oats. You can use any nuts and seeds you like and feel free to add dried fruit once cooled. I don't add dried fruit to ours so the end result isn't very sweet. If you prefer it sweet, then add dried fruit or extra rice syrup. If using extra rice syrup you'll need to add extra oats to soak it up. Aim for an extra 1/2 cup of oats for every extra 1/2 cup of rice syrup
Ingredients:
6 cups organic whole grain or regular rolled oats
1 cup organic pumpkin seeds
1 cup organic sunflower seeds
1 cup organic cashew pieces
1/2 cup organic flaxseed
1.5 cup organic rice syrup
Optional: 1/2 cup organic desiccated coconut, 3/4 cup organic dried fruit (cranberries, raisins, apricots)
Method:
Pre heat oven 190 degrees
Line 2 baking trays (with sides) with baking paper
In large saucepan, gently heat rice syrup until warm and runny
Add all the ingredients to saucepan, except coconut and dried fruit.
· Mix well; ensuring all oats, nuts and seeds are coated
· Divide the mixture between 2 trays (evenly as possible)
· Bake for 15 minutes.
· Swap trays mixing/turning granola to bake evenly.
· Repeat every 10 minutes for a total of 30 minutes cooking time.
· Once the top tray is golden brown, remove from oven.
· move bottom tray to top shelf
· Turn second tray once or twice until golden brown colour
· Leave the granola on trays to cool completely.
· Transfer to a large bowl and mix in the coconut and dried fruit (if using).
· You may need to break up granola into smaller chunks or your preference.
· Store the granola in air tight container. I use a 4 litre Tupperware box I've had for years. Keeps for up to 2 weeks, if you don't eat it before then!

Teams:
- Your team may be a school team, a family team or a group of friends.
- You can have up to 6 people in your team but two of these must be adults (over 18).
