Super Bowl 2023 has been decided and now it’s time to cast your vote for who will win! The Student Council, Peer Advocates and Student Athlete Leadership Team are sponsoring a fundraiser from 1/31 – 2/10 to benefit Cornerstone. Students and staff will receive a ticket for each dollar or canned food item donated. The more items donated, the more tickets you will earn! You will cast your vote by putting your ticket (s) in the envelope of the team you think will win the Superbowl. After the Super Bowl we will draw names from the winning team’s envelope. Donations should be made in the front lobby or student entrance before school.

The prizes will be as follows:

• If the school raises $100 we will do a drawing for 3, $10 Dunkin gift cards.
• If the school raises $250 we will do a drawing for 3, $25 gift cards to a food establishment (choices will be given)
• If the school raises $500 we will do a drawing for 3, $50 gift cards to a food establishment (choices will be given)
• If the school raises $1000 or more we will do a drawing for 3, $100 Amazon gift cards

Do you need help with a writing assignment for English, History, Science, or any other subject? Come to the new RHS writing center in room 228 (English hall) during Block 2 or 3! Attached is a poster with a QR code to sign up, and there are posters around the school and on the TVs. Come and get help with your writing assignments!

Come see the production of Oz on February 23rd and 24th! Buy your tickets for half price during all lunch waves! Tickets are $10 at the door.

We continue to offer a Homework Club to students on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Library. Students should sign up for one of the 20 available spots using this Sign-Up Genius link below, which is also on the homepage of the RHS website. We offer late bus transportation to the five elementary schools. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Ms Howard-Bender.

On February 25th select RHS Band students will take a field trip to UConn and get the chance to play with college students and professors! Students will receive a lesson from some of the best instrumental teachers in the country, as well as extensive training in multiple classic pieces. The day will terminate with a concert to demonstrate what they've learned!

Sophia Chapadjiev, a playwright and education director from the Eugene O’Neill Theater, gave a craft talk on constructing and revising one-act plays for RHS Creative Writers.

On January 26th, RHS held its annual Open House to welcome 8th graders to the school. Students and families had the chance to walk around and explore the many clubs and activities happening around RHS. This was also a great opportunity for the high schoolers to present their interests and gain future members. We had a record attendance! Thank you to everyone who showed up!

NHS hosted Cocoa and Cram, an opportunity for students to study together and enjoy some snacks! Teachers and student tutors were there to provide academic support, and students were able to study for midterms with their friends. The event was a huge success.

33 Rockville High School students are winners in the 2023 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. RHS students received 59 awards this year, including 8 Gold Keys, 23 Silver Keys, and 28 Honorable Mentions. Clarissa Halpryn received a 2023 American Voices Nomination for Best in Show!

State Totals: 46 Gold, 91 Silver, 124 Honorable Mentions

RHS Totals: 8 Gold (17% in State), 23 Silver (25% in State), 28 Honorable Mentions (22% in State)

Rock Stars of the Month are nominated by teachers at RHS and then selected from a committee. These students worked hard, played hard, and owned it in the month of January. Students received a certificate and a personalized T-shirt!

Two Contemporary World Issues Classes had a showcase in the library that highlighted their personalized projects. Students stood by their projects to present their semester long research on a world issue of their choice. Staff and students were very impressed with their work and their knowledge on these topics!

There is still plenty of time to read! All Bingo Cards and book review sheets are due back to the library by March 31st.

Celebrate Black History Month! Stop by the LMC to check out a book from our two displays.

Library Media Club created a book display full of great reads from our Romance section. Pull out one of cupids arrows to find your perfect book match!

Our girls indoor track team walked away with the indoor conference championship on January 31st at the NCCC meet! The boys placed 3rd! There were a great amount of personal records, lots of medals, and many qualified for states! Congratulations to all of our talented athletes. The team is looking forward to states!
