Schools and classrooms throughout Trussville City Schools find unique ways throughout the year to study and celebrate African American History - particularly during the month of February, which is designated in the United States as Black History Month.

February is Alabama Career and Technical Education Month. Around the state, schools will be highlighting and celebrating the value of preparing students for their future careers.

More than 173,000 students statewide in grades 9-12 are enrolled in Alabama CTE classes and programs. Within the past five years, Alabama has seen a 120% growth in workplace credentials earned, with 82% of students in Alabama currently enrolled in at least one CTE class. If you get social with hashtags, use #AlabamaCTE to celebrate this month!

Though National School Counseling Week 2021 (Feb. 1-5) has come and gone, TCS continues to celebrate this year's theme: "School Counselors: All In for All Students." The American School Counselor Association aims to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. This week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

Parents/Employees: Please share with your neighbors and friends who might not see our posts. This is a REMINDER about vehicles running past a flashing red stop sign on the side of school buses - buses that may be loading or unloading children. When this occurs, the Trussville Police Department is notified and a ticket is mailed to the vehicle’s owner. Please be aware that when a bus begins flashing yellow and then flashes red, there are either students on the ground waiting to load or will soon be on the ground unloading. Saving a few minutes by not stopping is simply not worth the risk of hurting a child. Please stop for our students!

A new playground basketball goal is in place at Cahaba thanks to a collective dream by several fourth-grade girls. The girls petitioned principal Mrs. Joy Tyner to have various fundraisers and sent several different diagrams depicting their dream.

"The girls were diligent and stayed in touch with me through short conversations in the hall and by sending me emails through Schoology," Tyner said.

The project came to life last week via collaboration among the fourth-grade girls, the PTO, school administrators, and several Cahaba dads. See the full post on the CES school website.

Magnolia recently celebrated its January award recipients - various groups and individuals recognized for myriad accomplishments: P.A.C.E. (Positive Attitudes Change Everything) Award, Students of the Month, New Readers Award, and the Magnolia Family Member of the Month. WVTM 13's Rick Karle enjoys quite a following on social media. He knows what we know: school stories garner lots of attention! Recently, his post about Paine Elementary's 1st grade teacher Mrs. Penny Moore, went viral. Mrs. Moore, whose son Malachi (HTHS '20) serves as Defensive Back for the Crimson Tide, was recently featured in Sports Illustrated. Mrs. Moore - also featured in the issue - has been signing autographs for students ever since!

Congratulations to Hewitt-Trussville Middle School's Cheer Team for claiming a Top 3 Spot in the State! The girls competed in the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Large Junior High Division 2021 State Championship against similar-sized teams from across the state. Seniors John Patrick Campbell, Jacob Copham, and Zachary Stutsman have all been designated National Merit Scholars by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

These students were among the 16,000 Semifinalists named in September 2020 who met all requirements to advance to Finalist standing in the competition. All Finalists will be considered for National Merit Scholarship awards to be offered later this year. Read more about NMSC.

Hewitt-Trussville capped the 2021 Class 7A AHSAA Track and Field Indoor season by bringing two blue maps back to Trussville! This is the first championship in school history for the Boys and the second Indoor title for the Girls, with the first coming in 1999. TCS thanks Mary Robertson, owner of Nona Ruth’s, who recently gave a generous donation to Neighborhood Bridges Trussville - an organization serving students in need. Neighborhood Bridges began years ago in Ohio and has spread across the country, partnering with entities like TCS Student Services to help by providing basic needs, removing barriers, and seeking equity for students so they can engage and succeed.

The Trussville Parks and Rec League is offering a unique event: the 2021 Drive-Thru Easter Egg Hunt. This will be held at Trussville UMC on March 13, 2021, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Are you job hunting or hiring? If so the Trussville Job Fair is for you! Scheduled for March 18, 10am-2pm at the Trussville Public Library.
