PTO Polar Playdate!
Get ready to embrace the magic of winter at our PTO Polar Playdate on the Rowe playground on Saturday, January 20th from 1pm to 3pm! Join us for an afternoon filled with frosty fun, laughter, and winter delights. Bring your scarves, mittens, and warm smiles as we build snowmen, paint snow, and enjoy hot cocoa together. This chilly adventure is a fantastic opportunity for our families to connect, make new friends, and enjoy some outdoor fun.
We need your help to make this event a success. If you are able to volunteer your time to help monitor activities and pass out snacks and cocoa, please sign up here.

Pizza Fundraiser at Flatbread
Enjoy pizza and community on Tuesday, March 5th from 5:00pm - 9:00pm.
Our PTO will receive a portion of the proceeds from all pizzas sold in the restaurant or for carry out. We’ll also have a table set up to let the community know about all of the great work we’re doing for Rowe. If you can help out by taking a half hour/hour at the table, please email president@roweschoolpto.org. Or if you’re there, just stop by to say hi!
Announcements
Your Donations at Work
A big thank you to our community for helping stock the shelves for our School Support Team! We have been able to provide small comfort items to some of our students in need and they were amazed by the kindness.
In the past few weeks, your donations have helped Ms. Rank and Ms. Lenehan purchase new color printers for the Art Room and Library. Ms. Lenehan also added new organization systems to enhance student learning. We also helped fund new PE equipment for Coach Custeau. The Specialists Team was overjoyed with the support from the PTO.
Sock/Waterproof Gloves Drive
Last week’s winter storm was wet! At this time we believe all students are outfitted with snow pants and winter jackets. However, we had a lot of students with soaking wet socks and gloves. If you have extra or outgrown waterproof gloves, we will distribute them to students or your child’s classroom teacher for extra classroom gloves. And socks! We are collecting all sizes of socks - gently used or brand new. No one wants to sit in class with soaking wet cold feet!
Calendar Raffle Donations
Do you own or work for a great local business or organization? Do you have a special skill you can share? The PTO will be holding the annual Calendar Raffle in April, and we are starting to solicit donations in the form of restaurant gift certificates, event tickets, and more.
Please contact Ashley Eiler (vicepresident@roweschoolpto.org) if you would like to donate something or help with soliciting donations.
Lost and Found
The Lost and Found Closet at Rowe is jam packed and we need to get our students’ belongings back into their hands! We have learned that students don’t always thoroughly search the lost and found or remember to check the closet even after repeated requests by their caregivers and school staff. There is a lot to remember everyday!
The best way to ensure students’ belongings return to their locker is to label everything!! Any misplaced labeled items are placed directly in students’ lockers when found. This is the easiest and most efficient way to keep our lost and found closet empty!
In an effort to clear the closet, families are welcome to visit the closet during the hours of 10-12 on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays. Our closet is located just past the main entrance by the nurse’s office. Families are also able to send a request to Janna Stefanowicz stefaj@portlandschools.org to look for lost items. Please send a brief description and she will do her best to track it down.
We will also have all of the items from the closet available at our Polar Playdate on January 20th from 1pm-3pm. Following the January playdate, all items will be donated to a local organization that ensures children and families have free access to gently used clothing.
Portland Public Schools Budget Season
Our district’s leaders and school board are currently engaged in next year’s budget process. The district anticipates a significant budget gap due to several reasons: the end of temporary Covid funding, a decrease in the state’s funding, and rising inflation. It is important that our parents, staff and community are engaged in the budget process and take advantage of opportunities to let our district leaders know what is important to us.
There is a public meeting of the school board on February 6, which includes a public forum. You can also contact the Superintendent’s office (superintendent@portlandschools.org) or our district’s school board member Julianne Opperman (opperj@portlandschools.org), to let them know what your priorities are for our district.
