Dragon News
Findley Elementary School
September 13, 2019
Findley Families,
Thank you for a great back to school! It has been a whirlwind two weeks for us. Teachers and students have been busy getting to know each other, teaching and learning school-wide expectations, and building classroom communities. Routines are being taught, practiced, and reinforced daily. Our young Dragons have adjusted well to the new school year.
This year, along with the Erin’s Law Lesson’s on Sexual Abuse Prevention, teachers will be teaching the newly adopted Oregon Health standards, which are more inclusive and comprehensive than previous standards. Please read more about that here. Teachers will be sending out more specific information on when they will teach the Erin’s Law Lessons throughout the year.
One other important item to note at this time is that the district is convening a Middle School Boundary Committee. As these boundary changes will impact our school community, I highly encourage your involvement. More information can found on our district website and here.
Happy Friday,
Sherry Marsh, Ed.D.
Principal
Speak Up 4 Student Success: HB 3427 - Student Success Act
The Oregon Legislature passed and the Governor signed the $2 billion Student Success Act (HB 3427) in Spring 2019. This is an historic and much needed investment in K-12 schools. The Beaverton School District could be able to access an estimated $34 million per year through a state application process.
School districts are required to apply for funds, and must engage their community in a needs assessment process prior to the application for funds. We will host a series of Community Conversations - Speak Up 4 Student Success in several locations throughout the BSD. Schools will also be engaging their communities in these conversations during September and October.
Please join us to talk about what student success looks like in the Beaverton School District? What is going well in Beaverton schools? What areas/services/programs could we improve?
Your voice matters! We welcome your perspective and opinion.
Speak Up 4 Student Success Community Conversations offered in English & Spanish:
· Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at Southridge High School, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
· Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Cedar Park Middle School, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
· Monday, October 7, 2019 at Stoller Middle School, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
· Monday, October 21, 2019 at Aloha High School, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. (Budget Listening & Learning Session)
For more information, and to complete a BSD Needs Survey, please visit the Student Success Act webpage.
Nutrition Services Benefits
Nutrition Services information is easier to access this year, and we have lots of cool information to share!
Remember that the 30-day Rollover Period for 2018-2019 meal benefits will end in early October. Be sure to apply TODAY so your students don’t have a lapse in benefits. Any families whose students go into “Paid” status will be responsible to pay for all meals charged in school cafeterias. Don’t let this happen to you!!
Click on the link below to go to SchoolCafe, and see all the things that you can do:

Findley has so many amazing events and programs! It’s one of the many things that set us apart. However, we need volunteers and a successful fundraising drive to make it all happen. Each of you can help make a difference. Check out www.findleypto.com for all the latest news and information.

Dragon Dash!!! October 4th
Today marks the official kick off for the Dragon Dash, Findley PTO's primary fundraiser for 2019! The Dragon Dash event will be held Friday, October 4th. Our goal this year is to raise $84,825 to fund Inquiry Based Learning, Art Literacy, Passport Club, Classroom Parties, Author Visits, Fall Festival, Science Fair and more!
Today, your student will be coming home with a pledge packet to begin collecting donations from family and friends. The pledge packet and attached flyer will have additional details on fundraising and prizes available for reaching various fundraising milestones. You can also fundraise online! It's easy! Visit pledgestar.com/findley to sign up and begin sending emails to family and friends! Company matching is available again this year to help us reach our goal. You can find additional information regarding company matching here. There are new rules regarding company matching for Intel employees, so please be sure to visit our site for that info.
In the coming weeks we will be sending out an email to solicit volunteers to help with event day support. We will need many volunteers, but please sign up early and often. Please watch your inboxes! If you have any questions, please reach out to our Project Manager dragondashpm@gmail.com.

The Classroom Committee Coordinator will be emailing you instructions every month.
Please contact the Classroom Coordinator Committee Lead, Lauren Wylie: laurenwylie1995@gmail.com
The following teachers still need Classroom Coordinators:

Art Literacy
Did you know that in the Beaverton School District, Art Literacy is the only elementary school art program for students? Findley Art Literacy is 100% volunteer run and funded by our PTO.
2019-2020 has 6 new artist-inspired or culture-based lessons to bring into each classroom.
We need support from parent volunteers to make this special program continue.
Trainings are hosted for volunteers to learn about the upcoming projects, as well as to make connections with other parents who share a common interest and appreciation for the visual arts.
Please email Christa Brask, the Art Lit Coordinator, with questions - artlitfindley@gmail.com
Check out our website for more details and to sign up to volunteer - https://sites.google.com/site/artlitfindley/
