Dear Parents / Carers,
What a wonderful and scientific week we have had in school this week! Each class has been focused on science this week as we celebrated British Science Week and considered the question 'What was the greatest Invention?'. Each class chose an invention and then researched it and presented their case to the whole school in an assembly on Thursday. We thought about the wheel, bread, penicillin, the compass, aeroplanes, rockets, the steam engine and electricity. It was lovely to see the children's work but also how engaged they were with the topic. Great work all round!
A couple of notices this week:
- I ask again that you don't allow your children, including younger siblings, to run through the cars in the car park but to stick to the paths.
- A reminder that children should not be wearing jewellery or nail polish for school and that earrings should be studs that the child can remove for PE. Uniform, especially PE kit, must not have branded logos other than our school crest.
- Finally, a reminder that I can not authorise leave in term time other than in very exceptional circumstances and not during statutory assessment times in May and June.
Have a lovely week,
Karen Williams

British Science Week
This week for British Science Week, each class chose an invention that they thought was the most important invention. They spent the week learning about their invention and why it had such an impact on our lives. During an assembly, each class then tried to convince the rest of the school that their invention was the best. It was amazing to see how much the children had learnt and how persuasive they were well explaining their chosen invention. Well done to Year 4 who were the winning class, who picked electricity as their most important invention.
This does include all EYFS, Y1 and Y2 universal free school meals.

Tadcaster Junior Hockey
Although hockey season is reaching the business end of the season, here at Tadcaster trying to build on the great turnout for our junior training before Christmas and expand our junior section. The next 10week period for junior training at Tadcaster Hockey Club will start on Wednesday 1st March 2023 at Tadcaster Grammar School from 6 until 7pm, which covers players from ages 5 up to 16, split by ages for training purposes.
We shall be running this 10 week booking in two sections, five weeks prior to Easter, a two week break over Easter and then the remaining five weeks after. This session is once more charged at £30 per child for the entire 10 weeks. There is a £5 discount for siblings down to a minimum payment of £20, e.g. first child pays £30, second child pays £25, and any child thereafter pays £20.
Sticks can be provided, however we recommend hockey shinpads (football shinpads at a push, but hockey shinpads offer better protection for ankles), astroturf boots; note not studded football boots as these are not allowed on the pitch, although trainers may be sufficient, and a gum shield. Please ask for advice on purchases if you feel unsure before buying, better to ask and buy the correct thing than not and get the incorrect thing.
Club kit is not required for training and unlikely to be in the future. Games against other clubs will be different, and we may be looking to provide a kit on the day for such events, although we would be interested to hear if anyone knows of companies/people who would be interested in sponsoring our juniors to assist in the purchase of kit.
Please can you complete the Google Form here to indicate your intention to send your child to Junior Training from the 1st March. The returns from these forms will be used for email distribution regarding future club events and for sending bank and payment details for the sessions once received.
