AHS TigerLife's sport live-streaming program stepped up its game by introducing a bilingual sportscast during its most recent coverage of AHS Basketball. Bent Schultheis, pictured above, is a German foreign exchange student currently enrolled in Digital Journalism, where he was tasked with a "passion project," or a topic that he really cares about. It eventually morphed into him sitting alongside TigerLife's Commentators Brent Lyons and Jake Stoope to announce the game in German.
"Bilingual coverage is new for the program. This was definitely a test run, but it was such a good lesson for us," said Jessica Roberts, Digital Journalism teacher. "The student crew, especially the audio engineers, were essentially running two shows: one in English and one in German, so it really tested their abilities and pushed them to a new level. Even Bent was very nervous going into it, but he got more comfortable as the show went on." Roberts said their eventual goal is to branch out and include the foreign language and ESL departments to tap into those student talents as well.
