Cupid's arrow hits Arlington schools for Valentine's Day
AES Best Buddies club holds after-school hang out
Arlington Elementary School launched its own Best Buddies club this year to bring together students of all backgrounds and abilities. Modeled after its sister club at Arlington High, Best Buddies promotes friendships between students with disabilities and their typical peers. In its first year, AES Best Buddies already has more than 50 typical peer members who are paired with a buddy. In addition to meeting once a week, they also hold special events throughout the year to bring the entire group together, like this week's Valentine's Day party. "I think all kids deserve a friend and to have someone to talk to and someone to play with," said Kennedy Alston, 4th Grader and Best Buddies Vice President.
Speed dating...with a book ❤️
As a part of Library Lovers Month, AMS students went to the library during their ELA class for a speed dating session, and it’s safe to say that some found their match… their BOOK match! They quickly tested out several books around the room to see which was the right fit for them! Caption by ACS Communications Intern Jake Stoope

AHS Varsity Dance named National Champions
The team won the UDA National Championship in the Varsity Intermediate Hip Hop division. This year's event hosted 365 teams across 33 states.
Meanwhile, AHS Cheer JV won the Worlds competition, while Varsity took home 6th in the nation in their respective division.
Arlington Middle's squad also ranked well against the competition, placing 3rd in Worlds and 7th in Nationals. Congratulations to all of our Lady Tigers on an incredible season!
ALL ABOARD! Families travel the world for Donelson Literacy Night
Donelson Elementary held its "Reading Takes Us Places" Literacy Night this week, introducing families to places across the globe. Students and their parents faced challenges and obstacles that put their literacy skills to the test.
ACS nursing staff expands safety measures with Narcan kits
Thanks to our Coordinated School Health and nursing staff, our schools have added another layer of safety and security. All ACS campuses will soon be equipped with Narcan kits that can help give lifesaving aid to those experiencing an opioid overdose. Our nurses and admin teams have been trained on the kits, and while we certainly don’t hope we have to use them, we’re happy to have in place yet another tool to keep our school community safe!
AHS TigerLife expands coverage with bilingual sportscast
AHS TigerLife's sport live-streaming program stepped up its game by introducing a bilingual sportscast during its most recent coverage of AHS Basketball. Bent Schultheis, pictured above, is a German foreign exchange student currently enrolled in Digital Journalism, where he was tasked with a "passion project," or a topic that he really cares about. It eventually morphed into him sitting alongside TigerLife's Commentators Brent Lyons and Jake Stoope to announce the game in German.
"Bilingual coverage is new for the program. This was definitely a test run, but it was such a good lesson for us," said Jessica Roberts, Digital Journalism teacher. "The student crew, especially the audio engineers, were essentially running two shows: one in English and one in German, so it really tested their abilities and pushed them to a new level. Even Bent was very nervous going into it, but he got more comfortable as the show went on." Roberts said their eventual goal is to branch out and include the foreign language and ESL departments to tap into those student talents as well.
Tiger signings, swim results and more!
Arlington High Football recently celebrated three of its seniors signing to play at the next. Jordan Batts, Grant Buchanan and David Williams Jr. will continue their football careers at Lincoln University, Belhaven University and Bethal University, respectively.
The signings also continued for the Lady Tigers Softball, with Emily Richarde heading to Webster University in the fall.
The AHS Swim Team closed out its season with five state qualifiers and an impressive local record.
Overall, AHS placed 3rd for the second year in a row in the county championship. State qualifiers include Jake Brady, Morgan Cowan, Paola Curet, Amber Diviney and Erinn Sheridan.
Amber Diviney placed 7th overall in the state in the 500 free, and the girls team placed 15th in the Women's 400 Free Relay.
